View Full Version : HELP....50HM66 light engine Recall

I have a Toshiba 50HM66 that has a shadow wedge on the top of the screen.
Our local service dept had no clue on why, so i figured it was time to surf the net and found lots of info on this forum.
I went to Toshiba.com and found the exact problem listed. I entered in the serial number and find that my set was one that was affected and that a new light engine would be supplied without question.
After several phone calls and getting hooked up with Toshiba Canada, they tell me my TV is not one covered by the recall.
She tells me the TV's in Canda are not covered.:confused:
What kind of answer is that???
I do live in Canada, bought my TV at Future Shop, and the label on the back says it was assembled in the USA.
Anyone else ever hear of this "no warranty" BS.???
I can't believe what I just heard.

What's my next step? Where do I call to light a fire?
Any ideas or info would be appreciated.

I am quite sure that the warranty laws in Canada and the US are not the same so the warranties for Cunsummer Electronics sold and delivered in Canada may not be the same as for the same units when sold in the US.
You may have to google for info on required Canadian warranties.

I can't seem to find any info on this in regards to Canadian Warranty. Even Toshiba.ca has no info on the light engine.
But why should that matter.???
My TV was built in the US and has the same problem.
I went to the store where I purchased (Visions, not FutureShop like my original post) and they are going to look into the matter.
