I have searched through this forum and looked at the recommended sites but I can't find what I am looking for.

The house I bought has a 5 foot built in granite counter top with storage cabinets below in the great room. My 46" LCD TV will sit on this counter top. So, I am looking for an audio/video rack that can sit on the counter top that will hold the TV above and an HDTV cable/DVR box from Comcast and a PS3 below. Since the counter is the standard counter height, roughly waist high, the rack shouldn't be too tall because the TV will be sitting on it and I don't want it to look weird by being too tall.

Even if it is something like what BestBuy or CircuitCity use to display their LCD floor models, that would be fine.

So let me get this straight, your gonna have a TV sitting atop a stand (or as you call it, a component rack) which in turn sits on a countertop? That sounds kind of unusual. Why not put a rack by the TV instead?

Because there is no place for it. If you were looking at the TV, there is a fireplace immediately on the left and the doorway to the other room on the right. I am trying to minimize the amount of wires I have to run from component to TV.

I'm a little confused too. Are you looking for a rack with rails, or just a cabinet type thing? If it's a rack with rails you'd be looking at a 4RU rack minimum which would add about 7" to the counter top, plus the width of the rack fram...so, maybe 8" total. If it's a cabinet kind of thing with doors and stuff it'll be a lot taller.

Gotcha. What are the dimensions of the countertop you'll be putting the rack on top of. That'll help narrow things down.

Ok. The counter top sits 32" off the ground and is 18" deep and 57" wide.

YOur best bet is to use teh storage space below the counter top. All the cables would go into the cabinet and a rack can go in there or just add shelves to the cabinet.

As far as remotes and such, replace the doors with smoked plexiglass or use IR repaters.
