View Full Version : HDMI extension?

Hey guys, hope you can answer this quick question. I have a friend (no, really) that has a new plasma mounted above his fireplace. He ran 25' HDMI cables from his rack, through the wall to his plasma. Now he's short about 2' from where the cable comes out of the wall to his components.

I've only ever dealt with short runs of HDMI. Is there any problem using an extension HDMI cable or a connector to extend his run a few more feet? Any particular things he needs to look for in an extension or connector?

P.S. he's not a videophile, just wants to see a picture on his new plasma.

A short extender cable should work ok. He'll lose a little signal through the extra connection but for a 27' run, the signal should still be sufficient. If he has a problem he can always add an equalizer-booster amp at the plasma end of the cable.

Any good quality cable should work. Of course you want a cable with a female connector at one end and a male connector at the other. Blue Jeans Cable and Monoprice, among others, are good sources.
