I purchased the display Magnavox H2080MW8 from Walmart to replace my LiteOn dvr, which I've had forever. With so many shows running 1hr 6 minutes or so I just got tired of missing the ending of shows (the ones not being recorded on the ReplayTV downstairs).

Anyway, the display unit came with nothing. I've tried 2 different Phillips universal remotes and an old RCA universal remote and the most I could do was turn the Magnavox off/on and maybe change channels.

Does anyone know of a universal remote that would be fully or nearly compatible with the Magnavox? Funai says they might have some oem's coming in at the end of the month and 1-800-remotes backordered me until around July 4th.

I'd like to know if this is a fully working unit or not.

Thanks.

Ordinary universal remotes seldom have the specialized commands to control the variety of commands required for your Magnavox.

Inexpensive "learning" remotes may be taught the specialized commands from an original product remote. I use a Philips PMDVD6 6 device Universal Digital DVD Learning Remote (purchased for $9.74 at a local Kroger-owned chain store). I set the code for a Panasonic DVD Recorder, but the remote only had the most basic commands and no ability to set up the machine, schedule recordings, or access necessary menus. Then I taught the Philips the missing commands from my original remote. I put the original remote away for safe keeping and use the "learning" remote for routine operation.

If you post your general location perhaps a local Magnavox user may offer to help teach a "learning" remote the specialized commands you need to use your Magnavox.

The OEM remote sucks so bad that you will regret getting one.

I can think of 2 options. Buy a learning remote to learn the code from another unit. Hopefully, you can find a display unit with remote that you can play with.

Or, buy or borrow a URC/OneForAll remote like URC-6131 and read this thread:

You can enter device code 0675 and enter the missing Advanced Code using:
