I live in a 3 bedroom house with 2 roomates. My personal entertainment system is in my bedroom. I have a 50" Plasma and a 5.1 Surround Sound system. I like to crank it quite a bit sometimes and sometimes I want to do it when its inconvienant for my roomates. Is there any Sub $500 solution for dampening the sound? How about a Sub $250 solution?
Thanks for your help.
Aside from removing sheetrock and installing sound-proofing products... there's really not a whole lot you can do. Acoustic Paneling and stuff is only meant for in-room acoustics so that won't help you.
I don't know... buy SoundRock and screw it to your existing drywall? :D

I remember some hayseed about ten years ago stick Dynamat (no lie, can't make this stuff up) all over his walls.
Then painted over it.

Ok what can you do? Cheap solid core interior doors actually help. Weather strip them if you can.
Turn down the subwoofer. Yeah, sad, but the lows travel very nicely throught the walls and floors. There is nothing you can do about the lows short of double walls and an isolated (and massive) floor.
Fiber glass or mineral wool batts of the kind used for controlling room reflections will help with the mids and highs--cover as much of the walls as possible with 3 or 4 inches of material. Standard fiberglass wall insulation will not work as well.
Use Dolby night mode.
Buy a good set of headphones.
Lead your roomies into the excesive use of strong drink.
