Would like help in connecting this projector.
I have read that it requires a special 25pin Sony connector/cable, that is also requires a negative sync? and finally that it can only project up to 480i.

I have contacted Curt Palmer regarding the cable, however I still need help regarding the resolution (current video card's minimum = 600 by 480 pixels) as well as resolving this negative sync issue.

Thanks, John

Here is a setup guide for the 1031Q. Similar to the 1030Q, but the 1031Q will display 1080i. This specific link is to the sync converter section. Obviously, if you see any mention of resolutions higher than 480i, disregard as those will likely fry your particular model of projector.

I ended up building the cable myself, its not too tough to do if you can solder.

Thanks for the site.

I have looked at the sync converters, and they all seem to provide only a BNC type output(s).
How do the various cables connect together, from PC's VGA to extron (XXX) BNC to projector DB25 pin?

Thanks, John

The sony 1031Q is capable of 480p and 1080i ( not 720p )

It runs best at 480p and I have in the past ran mine at 1080i fed from an HD receiver and it looked fantastic for an extreamly old entery level projector. You will really want to run the 10301q with a scaler it will really show you what that projector is capable of and its a capable little machine!

Ive since sold the Sony and now have a DWIN HD700

Vic C, the unit in question is a 1030Q, not 1031Q.

John,

You can build a HD15->DB25 RGB adapter, the directions are somewhere in the guide that I linked earlier. HD15 is your standard VGA plug, so you can buy a 4/5BNC->VGA breakout cable to complete the wiring. For my parents projector I ended up letting them use my Key Digital transcoder which has the option of negative sync. That allowed me to send component to the projector and I was able to completely skip the Extron box that I bought and any BNC connections. I also purchased BNC-RCA adapters just in case.

I tried sourcing the 4BNC (RGBS)->DB25 cable, but Extron no longer makes it and after trying for a couple months, Ebay wasn't any help either.

Finally, I had a spare Samsung SIT-TS360 DirecTV receiver that I am currently using as their TV tuner. It is one of the few TV tuners with a VGA output. You don't need to have DirecTV service, and you can even plug cable TV into it.

I think the 1030 and 1031 are both the same as far as what resolutions they can run. I just the the 1030 had different inputs ???? I dont remember it was a long time ago.

The 1030Q just doesn't have the bandwidth to do 480p or 1080i.

I think Curt will verify that if you have a 1030 after a certain serial number (I forget the exact #) it WILL do 480p. 1080i it WILL NOT do.
