I have computer hooked up to digital receiver, usually playing Itunes, NPR, Youtube..on current release of Vista.

I can not get Internet Explorer to quit playing web pages.

This doesn't help:
1) Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Multimedia/Play Sounds in Webpages (I turned it off)

nor does this:

2) Control Panel/Sound/Sounds/(disable everything)

Both my neighbor and myself would appreciate some guidance!! I will playing some nice jazz and innocently come across a webpage which will make the whole building shake.

I hate it when that happens.

Number 1 works for me though. I suppose the guys over in the HTPC forum might be able to help a bit better.

double click the volume icon next to your clock on the taskbar. click mixer, and it will have an option to raise or lower the master volume, and the volume for each application you have open. just kill the IE volume

I don't have that option with my XFI system, but like I said, no sounds come up from a website if I have the Internet Option set to off.

A third option would be to just use a different browser.

Mozilla Firefox is pretty widely accepted as a solid free browser. www.mozilla.com


Some people use other browsers, but this one seems to work the best for me across all my systems. Best part is: no click sounds!!

Firefox can partially help here if setup correctly. If I understand correctly, what's getting played is either flash or some embedded music on the page. There's a few add-on within firefox that can stop them from loading. Other than that, you will not be able to avoid them.

Post some of the links that you are having trouble with so others would understand what you need help disabling.

From IE or windows prospective, once you disabled Windows Sound or the so called "start navigation" all other should are produced by other programs or addon like flash, etc.
