I have a RCA DRC8052 DVD recorder hooked up to a 20 inch LCD monitor through a HDMI output to a DVI Converter. It will play DVDs that it has recorded from a Television with no problem, the tuner functions fine and if I hook another DVD or VCR up to the RCA jacks they work fine as well, however if I put a normal retail DVD into the unit it only displays for about 3 seconds and then the screen goes all blue. I can hear sound but blue is all that appears. if I change the mode from 480i to 480p to 720p I can get it to display for another 3 seconds but it always goes back to blue. Has anyone had this issue? Of course it's out of warranty now.

Thanks!

It maybe a copyguard problem with the LCD not having the most up-to-date software to accept commercial DVD's via HDMI. This was a problem with TV"s with a DVI input that was not compatible with HCCP copyguard. This problem disappeared when HDMI became the standard and DVI was no longer used.

Try hooking up the RCA to an LCD that includes an HDMI input. If it works then to solve your problem you will need to buy a new LCD.

Sounds like HDCP, which is a protection system integral in the HDMI standard. If the sender and receiver are both HDCP-capable... that's supposed to be anything with an HDMI input or output... the video and audio signals are passed thru untouched. If the receiver is NOT compatible, it's supposed to auto-convert to 480 signal. With a DVI converter in the path, it sounds like it's not sensing a HDCP-compatible receiver (TV), and you're getting audio cuz that's a separate connection with DVI-only input?

Your tuner and recorded stuff is OK since they're not HDCP-protected.

This is only a SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess)!

P.S. You should be able to play those commercial DVDs via any other connection (Component, etc.).

It was working at one time through this exact LCD with this DVD recorder, is there any way a different HDMI to DVI converter might solve the problem?

THanks

Was it with the same exact commercial DVDs?
