No revisionist nonsense on this BD release. PQ is excellent. Nothing to complain about. Especially if you know the look and style chosen by the film makers. The larger the viewing screen the better chance you will feel quesy because of the shaky camera. A lot like the Bourne movies :)

AQ is superb. Reference quality. 'Nuff said.

It deserves your well earned $19.99 ;)

I havnt seen this movie before so im not 100 percent sure, but isnt part of the movie supposed to look like its shot on a handycam? if so, could we get some screenies from the parts that dont? thanks

That's the whole movie. The screen caps don't show the improvement that most films do because of the way it's shot. The real comparison is with the audio:)

There's not going to be a lot of shots that have a ton of detail in them because of the motion blur and plus the image was somewhat degraded for effect (ie noise). There is 1080p detail in certain shots though. How about comparisons of these (taken from online trailers):

Rcvd the BD yesterday, watched it last night(first watched it at the theater). The PQ and AQ of this movie(both are superb) just cements my thinking of not needing to go to the theater anymore.

I was just thinking the same thing.

She was on CSI for a few episodes, until her character just vanished.:( She added some much appreciated eye candy to that show.

It would have been funny if HUD had kept focusing on her rack throughout the movie, I know I would have.:)

He, Hud gets some leg action shots later on in the movie. :D

I don't think it's so much the transfer as it was how it was shot. They used around 4 different cameras for the entire film. A lot of the interior apartment scenes were shot with the Panasonic HVX200 HD video camera, which produces a nice picture but isn't all that great for low-light situations.

That second shot that Xylon posted looks like it was from the HVX200. I've edited a lot of HD footage from that camera and it has that look in low-light environments. What looks like a bad compression job is actually the fault of the HVX200's compression scheme (it shoots to P2 cards).

I'd still say that the apartment scenes look nice given that it was shot on HD video. I can't remember when the higher quality cameras were used, but the nighttime exteriors were certainly not shot with the HVX200.

Paramount and Fox do this a lot for their movie trailers. The only one i have seen Paramount not alter for the screen is Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda. They have been doing this for several years now and i wish sometimes they wouldn't tease me with what the movie could of been like in Scope (War of the Worlds) Got tons of Film trailers at home that show this.

Pretty obvious improvement on the BRD in that last shot. Just compare the scattering of rocks.

The less said about the characters in Cloverfield the better, IMO.

Unfortunately I fell prey to all of the hype and watched it SD. Since the movie wasn't very good, I'm now torn about suffering through it again so that I can experience the AQ of the TrueHD track.

YES!!! Great audio track.

Maybe it's just an optical illusion or something but the SOL's head looks a lot bigger on the statue itself, especially with people waving out of it and stuff. :confused: (In photos and video I mean, I've never actually been to America so haven't seen it in "real life".)

Same frame, incomplete visual effects. The shot in the movie has more debris, a damaged car, and the claw marks on the face glow. The light source on the upper right side of the frame has also been removed.

I don't find either girl to be anything special (I can walk outside any given day and within 10 mins find someone I'd feel is more attractive) so I hope if I am stuck with you two guys that there is a 3rd lady for me. Yeah, that's the actual prop from the flick. They also had the enitre headless Lady Liberty, which was really cool, but I when I brought my camera it had been taken down. :-(

This movie does have intentional "artifacting" that was added in post. For example, the trailing effect when Hud swings the camera back and forth while the military guys are opening fire on the creature.

The cameras that were used also did not capture the image losslessly so there's already built in compression artifacts.

I was wondering if that was some kind of weird aliasing or something on the bin too or whether it was just a pattern on the metal that you can't see on the DVD because of the lower resolution.
