Well, I just moved into my new house and I need a desk for my computer(s). I've looked at all the Staples/Office Depot type desks and nothing ever jumped out at me. IKEA also fell short in my opinion, so I thought what the hell, I'll build my own.
I want something fairly simple, practical and is visually appealing. I checked out this site, http://www.ronhazelton.com/projects/building-modular-computer-desk.htm and a bunch of thoughts came to mind. There are a lot of options and possibilities with the Kee system.
I was thinking something wider, to be able to fit two people side by side comfortably. I really like the idea of suspended LCD's and would like to incorporate that. I think if the fittings and pipe were polished, topped with a nice finished 1.5 in. thick table top, it could turn out to be really nice.

I roughed up a sketch in Sketchup, without the Kee Klamps for the sake of time and lack of Sketchup skills.

What do you guys think?

Looks good. You may need some extra support in the middle. I can't tell how wide it really is though.

Have fun with your project!

You may want to revisit IKEA for the top of the desk. They have a really nice affordable countertop that has an aluminum look on the laminate. I used it for a counter in my HT and thought of it when I saw your sketch.

Dimensions are 7' x 3' for the main top and 7'x1' for the upper top. Looks like the Ikea table tops are too small, 5' is the biggest one I could find. Thanks for the suggestion though! Did you look at it through Sketchup? You can't see it from the screenshot, but I have a support in the middle. It's attached to the upper support bar that the upper tabletop legs attach to. It should be enough, hard to tell though.
