This isn't my setup but my parents. They have a older Mitsu WS-B55 that has done them well over the past 6 years or so. They picked up a Sony BDP-300 this weekend for my old man. Happy Fathers day! LOL So I set it up for them just now, using the best connections available to me, being Coaxial audio and component video. Old TV and old receiver.
The audio is perfect(for what they have), but the video modes aren't working so well. The TV supports 1080i and they use it all the time with HD cable. The TV doesn't support 720, if i remember right. The TV should auto adjust the resolution at hand. The problem is that when i set the BD player to 1080i, the TV cant seem to decode it. I just get the usual garbled digital picture. In 480i, it works, and looks like......a plain DVD. When i set it to 480p, it looks like 1080, but according to the BD player output it's not. When i set it to 1080, it totally doesn't work.
So i was just wondering if this is an inherent problem with older TV's or the way the BD player just sends the signal. Im kinda of ruling out the BD player since i set up the same Sony BDP300 for another family member on his Pioneer plasma and it works fine. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
