Can anyone advise about receiving 1080P reolution on a 3 year old Samsung 61" 1080P DLP, model HLR6168 through HDMI cable? I connect all devices throug the A/V Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver in the HDMI inputs. I am told that this HDTV has an internal upconversion that switches the componet coonections to 1080P but does not reccognize the HDMI inputs. I have tested this but connecting my Samsung Blue Ray BD-P1500 with componet cables directly to the TV and the signal is in fact updated to 1080P. However when using HDMI it will only get 1080I. Would a HDMI switch Box help me with my problem?

Your TVs user manual will state what resolutions it will accept over HDMI and based on its age it most likely will not accept 1080p.
However, that is not a problem since 1080i is a 1080p frame sent it two halves, the odd numbered lines and then the even numbered lines. Your TV does not do any scaling it just puts two halves back together creating a 1080p frame and then displays it.

I have an HLR and a blu ray. HLR's cannot receive a 1080p signal. 1080i is the highest resolution we can receive, then our tvs upconvert it to 1080p. When I set up my blu ray using HDMI and tried to use the 1080p setting, it blacked out and I had to use 1080i. Same for 24fps, can't use it with our tvs.
