I have a 43" Hitachi Rear Projection set bought in January 2003. Lately, the left half of the screen has become increasingly blurry. Is this a common symptom of a bulb needing replacement, or something else? If it is a bulb, what kind of costs am I looking at from a place like Circuit City (where I bought it)? I'm trying to resist the urge to get a new technology to replace it, if the repair costs are reasonable. Thanks in advance for any advice / related experiences.

It would help if you gave the model number of your set.

Is it just the left side or is there some poor focus on the right also?

It seems to be mainly on the left side, it has gotten progressively worse over the last month or so. I cleaned the lenses with some wipes for my camera, but it made little change.

Hitachi has a symptom/repair for your model with a focus problem on the sides of the picture. The repair is probably best done by an experienced tech because it requires board modification. Sorry.

Thanks for the info, I was kinda hoping that the mirror in the rear of the cabinet just needed to be adjusted. Guess it's time to pay the piper.
