Other than a few posts in the AVS review forum, I was wondering if anyone else purchased these.

Say what you'd like if you did and have not had the opportunity to offer your opinion on these BDs.

I picked up The Professionals and watched it this past weekend. The BD is, considering the source, spectacular. Fine film grain is preserved without any sort of distracting artifacts. The image is crisp with excellent detail. Colors, though not especially bright by design, appear accurate and solid. Black level is perfect.

The soundtrack is fairly amazing. Dialog is merely above average for an older film, but it would seem Sony found a really nice stereo element for the music track. Maurice Jarre's music sounds incredible in its TrueHD glory.

The film itself is a terribly underappreciated classic. Lee Marvin is his usual solid self and Burt Lancaster is at the top of his game. The supporting cast is equally stellar with Robert Ryan, Woody Strode, Ralph Bellamy, Jack Palance, and the gorgeous Claudia. Cardinale. Crisp, intelligent dialog and solid performances all around. One of the best westerns ever.

I too watched The Professionals over the weekend. It was a joy, both for the film, and also the presentation. As Robert said, it looks like a film, without any overly smoothed out images, ringing, or any of the crap needlessly added to HD. Just a lovely, detailed image with rich colors. A great way to spend two hours.

I bought both. Both are first-rate, both content & video quality. If you're a western fan, these are both worth adding to your library.

I own both and couldn't agree more with what has been written here so far in these posts. Thanks for responding!

I bought both but only got to watch Broken Trail over the weekend. I watched it on a Panasonic 50PZ85U Plasma and a BD30. This is a really great looking disc. Great scenery and really enjoyed watching Robert Duvall in another western. Two thumbs up from me on this one.

I just finished watching Broken Trail. The best Western I've seen in the last several years since Deadwood. I'll even go as far as saying it's even one of the best films I've seen in the last several years. I initially missed this movie because it was a made for TV original. I'm glad it made it to BD.

I haven't watched The Professionals yet. But it's on the agenda for this weekend.

I agree, The Broken Trail was very good for a "newer" western. I highly recommend Open Range with Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner and Annette Bening. It was made in 2004 I believe. It's not out on Blu yet, but I've put my name on the list at Aamzon to be notified when ( if ) it does. You can pick up a new standard def dvd at Half.com for $6.00 or less or Amazon for $10.00 range.

I largely agree, but I believe that Claudia Cardinale was in another movie that actually was the best western ever made: Once Upon a Time in the West.

I can't wait for Open Range on Blu-ray.

An absolute must-own for me.
