My old faithful Mitsu 52 inch diag. circa 1994 Rear Projection is dying. The color and contrast are ok, but the tubes, with brightness and contrast maxed out are getting very dim.

No one will work on this old TV as they say parts are not available.

So, my issue is, other than having to pick a new set, is the TV sits in a "Dry Wall Cutout" on the same long wall as a gas fireplace. The cut out measures 26 inches deep, 52 inches tall, and 51 inches wide.

Since most of the rear projector manufacturers are no longer selling these TVs does anyone have an idea on how I can fit a flat panel TV in the front part of this opening?

I want a larger screen so placing a small TV on a stand inside the cutout is not what I am looking for.

i have thought of building a "false wall" just inside of the opening, then do the normal "on the wall" installation.

Any other ideas for TVs choices or "retro fit"

Thanks

You can try going to crutchfield.com and looking at their TVs. They are good about posting the dimensions.

They also have a TV Fit Finder: http://www.crutchfield.com/TVFit/

Thanks,

Very helpful as this tells me I may need to do so modest construction to get a larger screen.

With all the TVs purchased in that last couple of years I am surprised no one else has written in this forum about this issue?

You could opt for a plasma/lcd and get a bracket that extends. There are some that extend up to 2 feet. It would also be fairly straightforward to build a false wall and bracket the TV on that.

I thought that I would let you know what we did to solve this issue.

We purchased the 67A750 Samsung LED rear projection. Also found a media table that was short so the tapered ends of the rear of the TV fit perfectly in the cutout. Only the 3.5 inch bezel, touching the inside and outside of the cutout is visible.

Looks pretty good considering

did you contact mitsubishi parts to find out if they have the parts?
just cuz someone says they probably dont have it doesnt mean they dont.
you may want to call them and at least find out if they have the CRTs.

either that or you could raise the heater voltage to the CRTs. of course you have to know how to do that before you attempt it.
