^^Same here. My math is simple, if I know I'll watch a movie more than 3 times, I'll buy. 4 x $5.00= $20.00 (approx.) the 5th time means I'm ahead. But there are a handful of titles I've watched only once...and I blame this thread...j.k..:)

I agree.
It is basically the same movies over and over again that are on sale.
Lets hope this years holiday season brings new offerings to Blu Ray sales.
Yeah...and it's gunna start getting expensive starting in Sept...a LOT of good titles being released

Not sure if this has been posted.

Apparently a new HD edition of Stargaze has been released with images of space. Retail is 24.95 but Amazon has it for 14.95:
Amazon.com: Stargaze HD: Universal Beauty [Blu-ray]: HDScape: Movies & TV (http://www.amazon.com/Stargaze-HD-Universal-Beauty-Blu-ray/dp/B0018LX9ZI/)

free shipping with prime or $25 worth of stuff.

I saw about 5 minutes of this on their sampler disc. It's breathtaking.

A definite blind buy for me.

The lack of blu ray deals as of late is depressing :(

Not only that, but I am disappointed that alot of the prices have not been dropping as time goes on. There are still launch titles that are priced the same now as they were when they were released. So far warner is the only studio making any effort to drop their MSRP.

^ I have said that before and agree with you now. There's no sense in these first to bluray older movies to stay at the jacked up prices they are. I have yet to see the $20 blurays show up at BB they announced just after the fall of HDDVD.

If you really want to cringe at prices, go to FYE. *shudders*

Yeah, I wish the format war was still on. We would probably have better prices and selection in both software and hardware.

Keep in mind sellers on Amazon's market place may provide a better deal on used Blu Ray titles vs the b2G1 free sale. I've never had an issue using their used sellers (always read through the feedback and ordered accordingly).

I tried 3 different movies, and got no discount either. So I looked at the "see offer terms and conditions" link at the top of the page where the movies are listed, and it says the sale expired in July. I guess that is why the discount isn't applying, but that doesn't explain why they have a current link to an old sale on their page.

I don't post alot, but I do check this thread very regular. I must agree...no good sales right now. I just bought a $1500.lcd from best buy, so i'm waiting on my reward zone points. I might pick up the Godfather trilogy, don't know...would rather be buying The Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended super duper Peter Jackson directors cut) on blu-ray. Oh well....can't hurt to wish.

There was actually a column Best Buy ran back when that they would be offering lower prices since HD DVD was dead. Yeah, right! Not seeing that happening.

I do hope that we see more Blu-ray sales soon, but I did pick up some titles for cheap at Family Video a couple of days ago. Some of them weren't top tier titles but they did interest me:

(1) Vengeance Blu-ray Disc (787364819997) = $11.84
(1) House of Fury Blu-ray Disc (117119644046) = $14.33
(1) Exorcism of Emily Rose Unrated Blu-ray Disc (043396215214) = $17.30
(1) Tiger Blade Blu-ray Disc (787364819898) = $11.84
(1) Proposition Blu-ray Disc (687797112163) = $10.34
(1) Pale Rider Blu-ray Disc (883929020843) = $16.85

why do you think bluray hasn't taken off?

$15 is my max for new titles, and $10 is my max for catalog. Once these studios realize that pricing is the reason the format isn't taking off and drop prices, I'll buy more movies.

Right now I own two movies - Corpse Bride (free with 5 disc mail in offer) and The Prestige ($12 from Fry's BOGO like a year ago). I'm happy to keep renting in the mean time.

I personally just buy new off Ebay, Amazon Marketplace, and also new and used at our MovieStop (Gamestop company that sells used movies instead of games). Blurays have a nice protective coating, so buying used isn't too much of a risk. That way I never pay more than $13 each for a bluray.

You have very unrealistic expectations for a new format, for the most part those are DVD prices.
I will agree the prices are too high I would be happy if they'd drop to where DVD's were a few years back, $20 for a new release & $15 for catalogue titles.

I have around 130 Blu-Rays, many of them bought during the BOGO sales last holiday season.
If it wasn't for Amazon I'd have a lot less than that but their prices are much lower than the B&M.
Between the online sellers price & sales I've averaged less the $20 each for my Blu-Ray movies, I can live with that.
I'll pay a premium for the improved audio & video quality but not a huge premium.

Still to much for that movie IMO, but it's something. Now to wait for Tower to do their funny BD price matching.

BTW- Borders put a pending charge on my card for the $64 Godfather box. So they might put a hold on it from month to month. So if you use a separate account for online shopping with limited funds, be forewarned.
They didn't do it for the action pack that ships next week or the Halloween pack.

EDIT- It looks like BB killed the deal...right after I got my order in...I was so going to wait until tomorrow morning. Glad I didn't, now to wait to see if they'll honor the price.

I went through all the titles on that site yesterday. The shipping kills it for most of them. Plus I have most of the ones I already want.

The best deals I'm finding lately tend to be on Family Video. Of course I'm still only saving about a buck per title, but you take what you can get in the post-format war era. :(

Anybody else having trouble applying the AUBM8 coupon code on whv? I'm trying to apply it to The Adventures of Robin Hood but it says the coupon has already been applied. Also trying to apply an email coupon I received from them for 15% off and it doesn't work (saying contact customer service). Is this a known problem with a workaround?

FYI, I used the AUBM8 coupon code to pre-order the Matrix Trilogy about 2 weeks ago, if that makes any difference.

Edit: I cleared cookies and temporary internet files and the AUBM8 now works. However I was not able to apply the email 15% off coupon code on top of it.

Highdefdigest.com reports:

"Warner has unveiled a new date and specs for 'Beetlejuice,' which will now hit Blu-ray in early October and include Dolby TrueHD audio and exclusive extras."

Goes on to say...

"Previously announced extras include three bonus episodes of the 'Beetlejuice' cartoon series running over thirty minutes ("A-Ha," "Skeletons In The Closet," "Spooky Boo-tique"), plus the original theatrical trailer.

Newly-added to the Blu-ray will be a collectible booklet entitled "The Beginner's Guide to Seeing Ghosts" which includes production notes, photos and more, plus a CD soundtrack sampler with six songs by composer Danny Elfman."

Since Warner (for logical and completely understandable reasons) doesn't let you "stack" coupons... it would be nice if the cart would auto-adjust to the "best" one if you entered multiple codes. Basically the way it works now is that whatever you enter first is it, everything else will fail unless you delete the first code.

I haven't had to empty my cart or clear cache yet... just so far make sure no codes are already in there.

So, I took advantage of the current low prices on deepdiscount.com, and ordered (among other things) the Ocean's Trilogy boxset for $19.98.

Got it today. The outer sleeve and box are red with the HD-DVD logo, but there was a sticker saying "only for use with blu-ray players and drives" on the outer cellophane.

I heard something rattling around inside, so decided to open it right away.

To my surprise, all three cases inside were blue, and the discs are the blu-ray versions! The rattling was broken bits from the inner spindle that holds the disc in the case...no biggie.

This actually isn't a bad thing, since I also buy blu-rays...I wonder how often this happens...$19.98 for the blu-ray trilogy is a sweet deal!

I don't know where best to post this, so feel free to spread the news around!

I was on another forum (High Def Digest I believe) and saw an intriguing post. The gyst of it was that apparently Best Buy was having some kind of in-store unadvertised promotion where for ever 3 CDs, DVDs, or Blu rays (any combination) you bought between 5/11/08 and 8/9/08 they would give you $5 Rewardzone (250 points) to your account.

In theory it was supposed to happen automatically and purchased did not have to be on the same receipt so it was cumulative for the ~3 month period.

So... I took the suggestion of the poster on the other forum... logged in to my RewardZone account yesterday and "Contact Us"ed them with a brief "hey, am I elligible for this promotion" note. About 5 hours later I got a nice email saying I was elligible and had been issued 1500 points ($30 worth of bonus money) to my account!

Sure enough, logged in this morning and there were my points.

Definately worth checking for anyone who has been buying a lot of movies at Best Buy lately as it only took me a few minutes to find out I've got $30 coming to me very soon!

I had to set FireFox's 'Clear Private Data' to clear everything (cache, cookies, passwords, history) in order to get the new coupon to take after inputting the 20% off one earlier.

A couple hours later I received a response saying that my purchases were eligible and they were issuing me $40 in rewards. I had no idea about the promotion until last night. If I had known, I probably would have bought several more discs, but I'm not complaining, its basically free money to me. :)

HDMe2 thanks for the heads up. I emailed bestbuy rewardzone and a couple hours later they responded saying they had added $40 in reward certificates to my account. Very appreciated

You're welcome. I'm glad I stumbled onto the thread on the other forum when I did, because I had no idea about the in-store promotion myself. I might have bought some more stuff the last few months if I did.

Funny thing, and I'm not sure how to verify it... but I'm almost thinking that some of the "movies" that counted towards my threshhold might have been those penny-Hancock Blu ray discs... because I've been wracking my brain and I can't come up with as many Best Buy purchases as they seem to think I had made over the 3-month period.

Definately not complaining, and since I didn't see mention on here I figured it was worth posting about.

If you log onto your Reward Zone account online you should be able to see a purchase history for that timeframe. And dammit, why didn't I think of buying a bunch of those penny Hancock preview discs?!? :p

I bought a LOAD of them. Time to see what all I purchased in that time frame.

If you log onto your Reward Zone account online you should be able to see a purchase history for that timeframe.

I did that first. Unfortunately, it only gives a 90-day window which goes back to 5/28 roughly so I'm missing almost 3 weeks of potential purchases that would have qualified. But basically my purchases have slowed a bit anyway (always happens during the summer) so I wasn't expecting nearly as much as they gave me credit for...

And dammit, why didn't I think of buying a bunch of those penny Hancock preview discs?!? :p

I bought about 16 of those, but 8 of them were actually purchased by a relative with a different account. I didn't want to go too nuts with that, but couldn't resist the penny Blu ray cases for potential future use. IF it turns out they also counted and got me free money that would be THE deal of the summer so far! :)

For those looking into the Best Buy deal, I emailed them saying I bought "multiple" CD/DVDs during that time period and they were able to tell me exactly how many. So you don't have to know before you email them -- frankly, I had no idea.

Well, thanks to Amazon, Ebay, DD, tower, Etc., Best Buy lost my business Many moons ago. So I guess I won't be taking part in the reward zone deal.
I did check into it though. I bought one Blu Ray in June. And I'm pretty sure I did so because I had a gift card.
I'm not compaining. I'll take Daily 30%+ off, over BB Reward zone specials Any Day.
Thanks for the info anyway though.

Thanks for the tip! Got immediate response from BB and they will be putting some $$ in my account. Nice!

I bought a total of three DVDs ($16.99, $4.99 & $4.99) and the preview of Hancock ($.01) over two receipts, called them yesterday and they credited me with 750 pts ($15) According to your posts, I was entitled to 250 pts, but for the inconvenience, they gave me an extra 500 pts.

lol, i know right?

They sound like that type of store but they're not. A few things i forgot to mention

- The free shipping code still works. Its GAMEPRO7. That will save you $1.99 on your order
- I only listed the pre-orders in that post. Theres actually a lot of good deals on blu-rays that have already been released on the site also. We're talking 16-18 dollar range on some good titles.
- A few of the Warner Blu-Ray titles can be had for cheaper on the Warner site. $16.85 vs 16.06. That of course is if you order 2 or more items so you can use the 30% off code, order more than $50 bucks worth so shipping is free, and are lucky enough not to be charged tax. So it really depends on what and how much you're getting whether the Warner titles are cheaper for you on the Warner site.

I'll be paying attention as well. I don't mind stores that don't price match other stores, since I shop around and do that work myself anyway before buying... but I do think a store should price-match its own reductions for a limited period. Amazon stopping this practice would make me rethink some purchases that I suspect might drop in price in the short-term.

I agree it. It's ****ing ridiculous how a Blu-ray player on their site can fluctuate up or down $10-20 per day...or even multiple times per day!

Try $90! I somehow got amazon to honor the price reduction last month on the panasonic bd50. It took two phone calls but they did it :)

Everyone else? Us guys elsewhere in the world?

I was referring to the Americans. Amazon is the only online place in the US that will ship to Canada that I know of. And I look at it as being cheeeep compared to prices up here. I can't think of any sale that I have seen up here since the war ended. amazon.ca which is the Canadian arm of amazon.com never ever has a sale on BD and their prices start at 50% above the American price.

So when I see the Americans complaining that they only have 4 or 5 places to buy discounted disks from and they are some times paying 1/3 of what we are up here for titles I find the perspective interesting. If it wasn't for amazon.com I wouldn't have bought any disks since the format war ended.

Do we really have to get into this again? The cost of living in Canada is DRAMTICALLY lower than the cost of living in the USA.

You're right, I guess when we (Americans) talk about Blu Ray prices we should always consider the cost of Blu Ray for every other country around the world. I hear Blu Ray's are going for about $75 on the black market in Papua, New Guinea. I should feel fortunate.

Walmart 24.96

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10105074

Best Buy and CC $27.99

Target $24.95

http://www.target.com/dp/B000NTPDT6/sr=1-1/qid=1220352813/ref=sr_1_1/602-2833600-9301400?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Atransformers%20Blu-ray&page=1

So I guess the best local B&M deal is to print the target ad and then buy with a 110% price match at CC.

I will just get it at BB because it is closer, I have reward zone coupons, and I hate the single checkout line at CC!

in store the target price on transformers seems to be 27.99. I doubt circuit city will match the online price.

That wasn't a sale they were having, they just raised all their prices today. Their prices for most blu-ray advance orders are the same or slightly higher ($27.99) than Amazon's now. They were consistantly $1.50-3.00 cheaper than amazon with the free shipping code and no sales tax in states where they don't have a store but they charge your credit card when you order even if it's an advance order. I've been ordering from them the last 3 months, cancelled all my Amazon orders. Now there's no incentive to order from them so I'm back to Amazon.

Yea the price match worked just fine at Best Buy. However, they would only let me use $20 worth of reward zone certificates. It seems that if the total is less than $5 you can’t use a $5 card even if the tax pushes it over $5! Oh well, Transformers Blu-ray for $5.23 seems like a pretty good deal to me! Oh and I bought the original DVD so I still can get the $10 rebate from that! Boy I like it when stores give me money to buy their items!

Saw Kill Bill in my Amazon Gold Box personal quick picks section for 37.99. For some reason the $2 off extra was enough for me to pull the trigger on this.

Also got the new Hulk movie pre-ordered for $26.55 from quick picks ($1.40 off Amazon's regular price).

Also just successfully price matched Target.com at Best Buy by just bringing in a printout of the product description page. As a side note, it appears that quite a few others had the same idea I did to pick up the title over lunch. The store only got 24 in and I only saw about 12 remaining on the shelf. Looks like Transformers on Blu-ray is off to a good start :)

Yes there were a NUMBER of people buying the Transformers Blu-ray. Wouldn’t be amazing if this is the highest selling Blu-ray ever even though it was not released on the same day as the DVD!

Anyone have an idea when the WHV coupons for September will be enabled?

My room mate is looking to get a couple of boxsets (Matrix, Blade Runner) and I told him about my savings...

NM... I just re-read the first post/page and saw the coupons are still active.

Yeah, I see it in mine today.
I still get the extra 5% off (not as good as when it was 10%, but still better than nothing (if you're wondering what I'm talking about, just do a site search for Amazon 10% off. It's less clutter than having 10 posts added to this thread to explain it), so I'm looking at $36.09.
I guess at $18 per movie, I may have to bite.
I'd still like to see more reviews on PQ though.
