stumlad 09-28-08, 07:39 PM I also gave it a try. Probably will honor it, but someone will hear about it tomorrow when they open up. Thanks.
I wonder if this will be the 2d/3d version or just the 2d version. At this price it shouldnt matter, but I'd prefer the 3D. Ordered placed!
$11.98 = no brainer: got one!
Pre-order on The Dark Knight on the WarnerBros site with the 30% coupons is 18.87.

The coupon seems to apply only when order is more than $50, will they ship the movies in the same order separately?

Yep - they ship titles as they are released.
Journey to the Center of the Earth is now up to $26.34 at Family Video. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they honor all the orders at $9.99.
bplewis24 09-29-08, 12:44 PM For those curious about the Amazon mistake 3 for 2 deal from a couple weekends ago and how pre-orders are treated, I have an update. The order that I placed with an Iron Man pre-order in it is now set to "shipping soon" and my Credit Card has been charged the amount that the CSR stated in the email. In other words, the discount has been applied correctly and it looks to be shipping soon.
In fact, looking at it again, it's actually cheaper than what I expected because the Iron Man BD has dropped in price by $2 (the free disc in my order was Kill Bill I, so I'm paying for Kill Bill II and Iron Man). So originally I was getting all 3 for $51.90 (as stated in the email), now I'm getting them for $49.90 because Iron Man is now $25 instead of $27 when I placed the order :)

I too have had my credit card charged $11.98 by Familyvideo.com for the Journey to the Center of the Earth Bluray. Now we wait to see if they get back to us. But if they go ahead and honor the previous price and accept the mistake on their end they will automatically be one of my first choices for future purchases. Any business that takes responsibility for their mistake at a financial loss is one with whom I will look to deal with and respect. It, in the long run, is just good business.
They already charged my card $12.78, so I think they'd honor it.
I hope they'll honor it. But just because they charged your card doesn't mean they won't send out one of those "sorry for the mistake" emails where they cancel your order and credit your card.

I don't see why online retailers do not have to honor there pricing mistakes. Retail stores do it all the time when they accidentally mark an item on sale or forget to take the sale price off the item. I think online retailers should have to honor there mistakes as well.
Megalith 09-29-08, 07:29 PM Because online retailers don't have to deal with braindead, idiotic customers that want a price adjustment just because a little kid put a $60 BD set in the VHS section.

There's been many a time that retail stores have advertised something and then posted a disclaimer in the store stating the mistake (and not honoring it) and apologizing.

Mainly because their user policies state that the websites have errors and that prices are accepted when shipped. When you submit an online order, its merely an offer back to the website for the goods at a price. It's not a contract, and there's nothing binding a website to honor such a misprice.

Internet commerce isn't held by the same standards and laws as B&M stores which is the same reason you don't have to pay tax on purchases from internet direct sellers.
In Michigan if an item rings up different than the posted price, you are entitled to the difference in price plus 10 times the difference back up to $5.00 Retailers don't have to give you the posted price if it's an error.
In many cases, avoiding taxes online is a better savings than a possibility of up to $5.00, at least in Michigan.

I don't see why you feel the need to insult people who are placing an order based on an advertised price.
This situation does not resemble your hypothetical scenario above.
Folks:
There is a store in Syracuse, NY called the Sound Garden. (There is one in Baltimore, MD too - go to <www.cdjoint.com>). Their price for new release Blu-rays is $19.99 everyday, all the time (unless the list price is lower than "normal" and then their prices are comparably discounted)! They have comparable discounts for box sets, etc. I just picked up Day Watch and Night Watch for $39.98, total. I was in Borders on Sunday and they wanted $39.99 for EACH one!
While I am a Borders Rewards member, no Borders BOGO can come even close to the Sound Garden. This gives me an idea of what retailers are making off of a Blu-ray sale. Sound Garden certainly isn't giving them away at cost... Amazon or Tower have been my main sources for Blu-rays. No more. Sound Garden will have all my business now and I don't even have to wait for things to be shipped! I'm going to give them my "wish" list and see if I can get them to call me when they get in the Blu-rays I want! If this is possible, I won't even have to peruse the Web to get deals!
[NOTE: I am in no way affiliated with Sound Garden but I am a VERY happy customer].
mnilan,
Great find. It doesn't look like you can order online, though.

Well, I don't see this as that great of a deal.
Any time I have ever been to a Borders, their DVD's have always been much higher in price than Circuit City or Best Buy... let alone on line dealers like Amazon.
I always felt their pricing was about on the same level as Suncoast Video.

Agreed. This is a deal on only a very small number of titles. Go to their website and try to find any three movies where you might actually save, and then remember that the in-store prices rarely reflect those online discounts/prices (the coupon is good for in-store only). Still, it's good to know about this deal for those of you who can find 3 BDs that you want.

Also anybody who orders from Borders.com should be aware that I pre-ordered the Godfather Restoration from them because of their good price at the time ~$62+tax, and it still has not been received by them even though it was shipped out last week (and the tracking site shows a delivery confirmation). I've called twice and they say they haven't received it yet. So if you do order through them, you'll want to have it shipped to your house instead of to a local store like I did.

mpgxsvcd 09-30-08, 11:34 AM Just got the Target one for $27.99. The stand shows $34.99 but it will ring up as $27.99. I haven't been able to play it though. However, the packaging does not indicate that the actual discs contain anything different from the ones at Best Buy or CC. I think the target one just gets you the cool case for your extra $2!
nice case but it looks like it would be a pain in the ass to keep in a shelf kinda like the simpsons boxes

So I'm going to order the BD version of DHBS and send back the DVD version when it arrives. Plus I took advantage of the 30% offer and ordered SitC.

I cancelled a pre-order for Band of Brothers when Amazon dropped the price. They sent me an email stating they will contact the distributor and attempt to cancel it in time (of course this was 2 months before the discs hit the streets). Eventually I checked the status of my order via MyExpressCheckout, and it finally said cancelled after about 10 days. Not a speedy turnaround by any means.
rutlian 09-30-08, 03:17 PM Just got back from BB and got the IRONMAN for 22.88 with tax already.
Printed the "your cart" and in that I have both the Indiana jones and Iron man with 5.00 less

IRONMAN - 20.99
INDIANA JONES - 24.99

Actually when I looked at my Warner order I see that it was actually $59.99 plus sales tax. I'm not sure how others got $55.99 but I would guess sales tax is still included.
So it would actually be cheaper for me to order from Amazon and I would get faster shipping to boot.
Amazon prime is $59 per year and you get 2nd day air shipping on everything that is sold direct from Amazon with no minimum order. You get overnight shipping for $3.99.
While this won't make sense for everyone, I order dozens if not hundreds of items from Amazon every year. Paying $59 for a year's worth of 2nd day air movies, audio CDs, computer games, hardware, etc, is well WELL worth it to me.

I realized you are using Amazon, and that's cool. But in the interest of full disclosure, Warners never charges tax on my orders (In Maryland), and they've shipped virtually everything I've ordered from them via UPS 1-day. There's no guarantee of that, but it's the norm. Also, WB tends to ship things out early, so you get stuff before the release date. Again, no guarantee of that, but there's a decent chance. I don't think you can go wrong ordering from WB or Amazon on this, but the small details may sway orders.

No, but I got the service a year ago in December, the price might have gone up since then as shipping prices have skyrocketed due to rising fuel costs.

That's interesting, as most seem to indicate that WHV charges sales tax. I've done numerous orders with WHV for HD-DVD in the past and they never shipped me anything prior to release and they never shipped a single order standard overnight.
UPS Ground or USPS mail and I would usually get the titles the week of release but not prior to street date.

WB only charges tax in certain locations. I have packages shipped to my parents in CT (because NYC gets taxed).
Since they've cleaned up their act, I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I typically get things before or on release date.

http://cart.warnerbros.com/store/st.handler.asp?sslist=%27WHV%27&doc_type=CSP#VSTAX
We are required to collect Sales Tax for orders shipped to the following states: AR, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TN, TX and WA. Tax will be collected at the rates in effect at the time of shipping your order. The amount of your sales tax will be calculated and displayed during the checkout process.

anyone know a good place to get the die hard set?
Sorry this is after-the-fact... but I finally bit last week because Best Buy had it in-store for $89.99 (yeah, 4 dollars more than Amazon) and I had $30 in RewardZone certificates from earlier in the summer that I'd been saving... so I figured for $60 out-of-pocket I'd go ahead and bite.
Otherwise I've not seen any better than Amazon's $85.95 price this year.
LBFilmGuy 10-01-08, 06:38 PM Warner raised the price of TDK to $29.95 so now it can be had for $20.96 shipped.
Good thing I ordered yesterday
Richr 13 10-01-08, 07:52 PM I pre-ordered "Iron Man" and Monday I saw that "The thing" was available so ordered it as well, too late to add it to my Iron Man title which was "being processed." I paid $11. exrtra for overnight delivery on Iron Mna just because I wanted it right away, amd standard shipping $2. for "The Thing." Both packages were at my door today when I arrived home. Arghh!
hockeynut 10-01-08, 08:24 PM Transformers is going for $19.95 at Amazon right now. I'm thinking about it. That's a pretty good price don't you think?
LBFilmGuy 10-01-08, 08:31 PM Transformers is going for $19.95 at Amazon right now. I'm thinking about it. That's a pretty good price don't you think?Pretty good...best we've seen so far.
I'd still like to see cheaper though :p
hockeynut 10-01-08, 08:43 PM I went ahead and got it. I also ordered Iron Man. Not the best price around ($25.95) but had to get another to qualify for free shipping. Can't wait to get both!!!
Ghosthoffa 10-01-08, 08:53 PM I got a $5 off blu ray coupon at the register at target, it is a in store coupon that printed up after my receipt. I didn't purchase any electronics. Just as an FYI I think the coupons are random at best but I am glad cause it is good on any blu ray movie! Any body else get this yet?
lgans316 10-02-08, 02:15 AM Speed Racer and Sex and the City listed at $19.95 in AMAZON.
kinglerxt 10-02-08, 03:41 AM Im a Prime member as well
Definitely worth it for big buyers but I dont think its $59 a year more like $79
I just joined a few months back
Maybe they raised it since when you joined
Not 100% sure .. my mind is mush right now
Actually when I looked at my Warner order I see that it was actually $59.99 plus sales tax.
Paying $59 for a year's worth of 2nd day air movies, audio CDs, computer games, hardware, etc, is well WELL worth it to me.
kinglerxt 10-02-08, 04:02 AM Thanks
was waiting for under 20 on that one
just ordered it

I am just curious... but why didn't you just buy it at Walmart?
Adam Tyner 10-02-08, 10:33 AM I am just curious... but why didn't you just buy it at Walmart?Maybe his local Wal-Mart store either didn't carry it or had it at a different price. It could've also just been convenience...if the Best Buy is just easier to get to than the nearest Wal-Mart.

Probably in order to fix the mistake.

They adjusted the price to $29.95 (up from $26.95) by the time I saw the pre-order yesterday.
I had to run an errand and forgot to pre-order yesterday.
I came into work today to try to pre-order, and they took it down.
I've found the product page w/ google, but it's been blocked from being added to the cart.

$18.87 ($26.95 and below before 30% coupon) is definitely a sweet spot, but I can settle for $22-ish for The Dark Knight :D
I hope they'll honor it. But just because they charged your card doesn't mean they won't send out one of those "sorry for the mistake" emails where they cancel your order and credit your card.
I just received a package from Family Video, for a DVD version of Journey to the Center of the Earth starring Ricky Schroder. I checked my order history just to make sure I ordered the right thing and it's the Blu-Ray version. So be on the lookout.

Actually in the time since I posted, I called Family Video and they seem well aware of the problem. I mentioned I received the wrong disc and the CS guy already knew the title without me saying anything. He said they'll contact everyone about it tomorrow. We'll see...
kemitchell 10-02-08, 04:24 PM Family Video's CS is pretty good. I bought a DVD a few months ago from them and when I received it, the case was cracked though the disk was fine. I sent them an email just to let them know what happened and they apologized and sent me out a replacement right away without me even asking for one.

NO, NO, NO...Just opened my mail...it's a SD dvd of Journeytothecenter. Well, I'll try emailing them...otherwise it says I have to fork over the dough for return postage.

I had checked the UPC number before ordering and had confirmed it was the blu-ray disc. Their website didn't have the correct releasing studio however. I placed the order and called. Was told it was the correct disc but told me they couldn't be sure I would get the 3D and 2D as they can't guarantee what they will get from the studio so I had them cancel my order. I received an email saying they couldn't cancel the order after all as it was already in the shipping process. I called again and was told it was shipping so couldn't cancel, even though it wasn't supposed to be released till 10-28. The told me to just write return to sender when it comes if I don't want it. It arrived, I opened it in a way that I could still return to sender and saw it was the Ricky Schroeder version. I called them again and let them know. Obviously a few others have had the same thing happen so they are now aware.
Anyone who has an order pending may want to call them to make sure they will get what they are supposed to.

Oddly, the Rick Schroeder version is 15.99$ Even a Greg Evigan version just got released. No wonder they might be confused! I've never seen so many different versions of a movie get released back to back to back (and not re-releases of older movies - all were recent adaptations!).
Fingers are crossed this will work out, but I'd rather them cancel than send the wrong movie out to everyone...

Funny, I saw the Ricky Schroeder one at Moviestop the other day and it made me think about the great deal we were getting for 9.99. Mine hasnt been shipped yet, but it says the status is "(In Fulfillment)" Does that mean it's been shipped or about to be? They definitely charged me for it!
As for Dark Knight, I'm assuming you guys are talking about Warner Home Video. I'm hoping they honor the 26.95 pre-order price so that those of us with 30 percent off can still get it for 18.86. It's just a question of whether or not Warner will ship it to me. They seem better now than a year ago, but I'm still weary of them.

I just check my order status and it says in fulfillment too. Under product it says
1 x Journey to the Center of the Earth Blu-ray Disc $9.99
then shipping info
Sub-Total: $9.99
$1.99 Shipping (5-10 business days; USPS): $1.99
Total: $11.98
If they send me the wrong disc i'm going to demand they send me the right disc. If they don't then i just call up my credit card and let the dogs loose. To all that ordered make sure you keep a copy of your order comfirmation emails. In it it does say blu ray versions in it. So family video will have to honor it or refund your money.

In fulfillment just means they are waiting to get the disc and ship. I had called them several months ago before placing my first order with them when they were cheaper than Amazon on most everything. They charge your credit card at the time you place your order no matter how far away the release date is. If you check your account and view the details of a particular order you will see when it ships as they don't send emails when shipping. If there is more than 1 disc in an order the order will say in fulfillment until all the discs in the order have shipped. Once they've all shipped then the status will say shipped.
I pre-ordered Dark Knight, Clone Wars, and Polar Express 3D from Warner last Monday. I immediately received an email saying that my credit card wouldn't be charged until the movies physically ship from the warehouse. But it looks like my credit card was already charged for all three movies. What gives? Have others had the same experience with Warner?
I just got off the phone with them. Mine says in fulfillment, which means it hasn't shipped. He stated that they received over 1100 orders for the movie, and about 160 of the DVD version shipped in error. All others were caught in time, but they don't have the BD product yet, and will ship when it arrives. He asured me that I was getting the BD version, and they were having a 10:00 am meeting this morning to try and rectify the problem. For those who have received the wrong version, he said to watch your email how to rectify the situation

Nice! Thanks for the update! I almost missed out on the deal so I am probalby at the end, one of the ones that did not and will not get the DVD in error. Even when companies don't charge your CC right away, they put a temporary hold or suspense on that CC in the amount of the transaction. It's a way of verifying you have the available credit for the purchase. I've made two WB orders and, as already stated, they go away after a couple of days. Amazon and Borders.com did the same thing.

I've placed a ton of orders with Amazon over the years and I don't recall them ever charging (or placing a hold on) my CC until the order actually shipped, regardless of whether or not it was a pre-order. It certainly hasn't happened recently (last few years.)

Probably because it doesn't show up as a charge. But if you look at your "available credit", it will have reduced by the amount of the transaction for 24-48 hours. But under "recent activity" or "charges" nothing will show up.
At least that's how it works for my CCs with the recent Amazon, WB and Borders.com purchases.

I'm sorry, but this just isn't happening in my case. Most of the time, the CC I use is actually a debit card with a Visa logo (which is processed by Amazon as a CC.) I always know when a site/company has put a hold on funds and/or has charged my card early, as I monitor my accounts online daily. There are plenty of sites that do pull that kind of crap, but in my experience, Amazon isn't one of them.

My experience is the same as yours, I've never had Amazon place a hold on my account for pre-orders. I'm able to view all holds on my account, and do regularly, but there is never a hold from Amazon until shipment. Other companies might do this, but not Amazon.

Due to be released October 28th, so probably the end of the month, or first week of Nov.
DonoMan 10-03-08, 12:16 PM They don't place holds, but they may place preauthorization which is just to check if you have the credit. Some banks/CC companies will reduce your available balance for up to a few days, thinking that the company will go through with the charge, and if they do not during that time, your available balance is returned. This is normal; every retailer either charges or preauthorizes.
WB always does a temporary charge for me. It says "pending" in my account, but then it's removed the next day or two.
That's not good at all. I use a virtual account number, so even if they remove the charge next day that card number the limit on the card is not returned so when they go to charge for the actual movies it will be denied. *sigh* These websites that charge CC really need to have this info on their site FAQ.
Yeah they "charged" it and remove it as it says the limit remaining on my VAN is $0.62.

Once again, Amazon does not do this in my experience. I've dealt with plenty of sites that do, but Amazon has never (to my recollection) pre-authorized a charge, nor have they placed a hold on any funds, nor have they charged me early for a pre-order. Whether I place an order for something "In Stock" or I pre-order something, the charge doesn't show up (in any way, shape, or form) until the order has shipped.
Personally, I refuse to do business with sites that charge you immediately for pre-orders, which is why Amazon gets the majority of my business.

I would avoid Tower like the plague, if I were you. I made the mistake of ordering from them once and will never do it again. They are owned by Caiman now (do a Google search to find all of the complaints made against that company) and their customer service is atrocious. Unfortunately, the only thing the new Tower has in common with the old Tower Records/Video is the logo, which was purchased.
Smarty-pants 10-03-08, 01:03 PM I've ordered form Tower about 10-12 times. Never had any problems at all.

I use a virtual account number, so even if they remove the charge next day that card number the limit on the card is not returned so when they go to charge for the actual movies it will be denied.
I'm not in banking, so take this with a grain of salt, but I don't think this will necessarily be a problem. My understanding is that places run a pre-authorization when you place an order, and you might see a reduction in your available credit when they do that (since the bank is expecting that charge to eventually hit). But after a certain amount of time, it "expires" and the amount goes away. But they still pre-authorized, and even though your bank may have removed visibility of that pre-auth, the pre-auth may still be valid, and may still go through once they ship it. Even though your card # is only good for one use, previously authorized transactions from when the # was valid should still go through. I'm sure there's eventually an expiration on those pre-auths, but it may not correspond to how long you can see the pre-auth in your account.
^
The problem I've encountered with using virtual cards at some sites is not that they are one-time use (mine aren't), but rather if you put a limit on the card that isn't high enough. For example, if you put a $15 limit on the card when purchasing a $10 item, if the merchant puts through a test charge and then the real one, it will exceed the $15 limit. So you have to make the limit (if you use one) at least double the purchase price.

They may, but they don't. You're incorrect in thinking that every retailer either charges or pre-authorizes because many don't. Generally, a hold or pre-authorization is only done the first time a retailer charges a specific card and this is usually in the amount of one dollar (netflix shows a $1 authorization charge every month).
Speaking to Amazon specifically, I have NEVER seen my available balance (all holds and pre-authorizations are displayed under my "holds" portion of my account). I've been the victim of ID theft twice, so I monitor my account information more closely than anyone I know (multiple times a day usually).
I haven't seen it with Amazon, but I have with both Warner and Borders. I've seen it with a few other retailers (not just online either) as well.
Restaurants do this too... When you give your card they do a pre-auth for the total + expected tip. Then they do the real charge with the amount you sign for (whatever tip you add or don't)... so if you are quick enough you can see a double-"charge" sometimes on your account, but the pre-auth goes away.
It is true that some credit companies count this against you temporarily... but I don't think that is permanent.
In other words... if I had $100 credit... and a $50 pre-auth was made, it would show $50 pre-auth and $50 credit... but I believe I could go and charge $75 purchase on the card and that would go through... taking me down to $25 available and then the $50 pre-auth would bounce out IF that company tried to finalize it before I had more credit available.
I don't think a pre-auth will ever bounce an actual charge... but the other way around could happen.
LBFilmGuy 10-03-08, 06:47 PM I've ordered form Tower about 10-12 times. Never had any problems at all.

it's a 2:1 ratio.
Prices aren't so great then, lol.
Per today's Circuit City ad, the following titles are $17.99:
17.99 each(Reg. 29.99) thru Oct 11
300
I Am Legend
We Are Marshall
Ocean's Thirteen
16 Blocks
The 300 Spartans
The Departed
Firewall
Rush Hour 3
Pan's Labyrinth

Hmm, that's still about $5 too much for titles. Realistically these old movies that have been out for over a year should be marked down to $10 now -- I REALLY REALLY miss the bogo's we had a year ago where titles were $12.50.

Does the UK have the extended version of Crank and the uncut version of Casino Royal?
In Sunday's Sears ad they advertise discs at 14.99 to 19.99. They only have 4 movies shown and they don't specify which movies are which price. Pretty sloppy. I can't find any additional information on their website either. Anyway, the 4 movies listed are:
300
The Fugitive
Troy
Swordfish
jahummer 10-05-08, 05:14 PM For those of you who complain about the WB store, their free standard shipping rocks. Did you happen to purchase The Matrix set and/or Band of Brothers from them? I did, and my available credit was just reduced by the amount of those two box sets combined. I'm wondering if they're shipping soon???

sonyfangirl 10-05-08, 06:02 PM I'd like to have Ocean's 13 to complete the set, but I not badly enough to pay over $15 for it.
I am wondering - does the reported success of Iron Man help or hurt the prices for Blu-Rays at Amazon? I miss the BOGO sales as well.

Please stay on topic. This thread is about deals only. This thread isn't about the success of failure of BR, nor a stats (sales numbers) discussion thread. We have a separate sticky for that.

I agree that this is the time to jump in for UK imports if you need them. Amazon.co.uk also takes off the VAT for non-EU customers and the U.S. dollar right now is stronger than it has been in the past few months. Some titles are exclusive to the UK which are region free or are clearly better versions.

You missed the point. The point is if the prices will go down on Blu-Rays at Amazon...nothing to do with how many they sell.

This is not a conjecture thread. This is a deals thread. The ironman comments have nothing to do with a specific sale. It's time to move on to discussions of deals/sales.

msgohan 10-06-08, 09:17 AM Does the UK have the extended version of Crank and the uncut version of Casino Royal?
No and no, sadly. They don't have any Blu-ray of Crank (expensive German is the extended one), and their Casino Royale is taken from the uncut version and then cut in different places (torture scene).

msgohan 10-07-08, 01:26 PM I think they handled it well. Fair to both parties.
Doug Schiller 10-07-08, 01:36 PM I am sure it is a "your mileage may vary" sort of thing but I just got back from my Super Target in Clearwater, FL.
They had the following marked down like they were used but they were new:
HDDVD: Fast and the Furious, Fast and the Furious 2 , TMNT, one of the Harry Potter movies.
Blu-Ray: Die Hard 2, No Reservations, Edward Scissorhands, Dragon Wars, and Appleseed Machina whatever (the Anime movie).
These were all priced between $4 and $7.
I picked up FandF, Eddie Scissorhands and Die Hard 2 for a total of $20.
Check out the mark down section.

I never got an email, and today received my order. However it was the standard DVD, not the blu-ray. My emailed receipt clearly says blu-ray, but the packing slip does not. I emailed them, we'll see what happens.
dealer6871 10-07-08, 04:25 PM Mine still says "In Fullment", but expect the e-mail and coupon. We all knew it was an error and took advantage, so I'll order another title with the $5.00. Still comes out a few bucks cheaper then Amazon with Prime shipping.
truffleshuffle83 10-07-08, 09:12 PM Rumors on CAG that next week circuit city is running a deal that if you buy the samsung bdp-1500 for 249 you get matrix for free. if it was the sony bdp-350 id do it

Well, the 1500 did go "live" this week. So you'd be getting a BD-Live player plus the Matrix for a total of like $275 out the door depending on your tax rate. Of course, if you were signing up for the Sony credit card to get $150 credit, you cound get that package for much less after rebate, but you have to open a charge account to get the deal.
truffleshuffle83 10-07-08, 09:24 PM theres 40 dollar off 200 dollar purchases from circuit city floating around to sweeten the pot though. unfortunately ive read enough bad reviews of the 1500 to sway me away from it

Well, I do agree with you, but that doesn't stop a lot of people from buying whatever they can get for the cheapest price. I was guilty myself of doing that when I bought the 1400. I don't own it anymore and you can probably guess why.;)

Why not wait for Black Friday and look for a BD player then? Perhaps something with better reviews will come through the pipes for the right price. truffleshuffle83 10-07-08, 09:59 PM i already ordered it from warner back when they had lowered the price and still had the 30% on the lowered price, but im in the market for a new blu ray player now and if i can get the panasonic 35 or the sony 350 for 250 without a cc app through CC ill be in. i have some giftcards there
I received my Journey to the Center of the Earth BD cancellation today. I was not surprised but I was dissappointed. I was hoping Family Video would do the honorable thing but they probably had to many orders to handle the loss. Just the same, I canceled a preorder of Mirrormask BD and won't look to do business with them again. To be honest, I never was comfortable with being charged at the time of purchase rather than when the item is shipped. Regardless, losing me as a customer certainly won't cause them to lose sleep.

Well the honorable thing as a customer is not to expect them to lose money on a sale. Sometimes you get lucky with these things, but you can't get pissed because they discovered their mistake and decided not to give these things away.

Not the point. It happens all the time in retail stores and they honor the price because the store made the mistake. It is all about customer service and if you do not honor your mistake then you lose customers. Online stores should have the same customer rules as the retail stores. There has been a few times on Amazon when they made a pricing mistake and they did not cancel orders on customers for there error.

But in a retail store after the first 5 or so people come through the line with a mispriced item usually someone gets clued into the fact that it is wrong. Plus they do not have 1500 copies of a movie sitting on the shelf mispriced. The Family Video thing was reported to have around 1500 orders. I seriously doubt a retail store would sell 1500 copies of a movie $15 below actual price.
Li'l Jimmy 10-08-08, 09:53 AM online stores also have a slimmer margin. if a retail store discounts too much, it is generally still over cost. they would not knowingly sell tons of item below cost because of a typo

Very good point. I think that it was very good of Family Video to give out the $5 coupon. They are giving you half the cost of the $10 movie price mistake right there. And it cost you absolutely nothing to get that $5.

Any retail store I've ever seen that accidentally advertised something ridiculously cheap just puts a sign at the front door and on the shelf of the product saying "Sorry, we made a mistake, here's the real price."
The so-called "honorable" thing was them giving you the $5 coupon, which they really did not have to do. I think if they had accidentally sold it for $15 or $18, they may have gone ahead with selling them, but they clearly would have been losing a lot of money on a $9.99 sale, and no company will lose that kind of money to make the handful of really pissed off customers happy.
I do agree that they shouldn't be charging you until the product ships, though.

I worked in retail for years when I was younger and unfortunately these things do happen and are mistakes. In fact, the mistakes often were made by the newspaper, etc, running the ad.
We once saw a $2999 big screen mistakenly advertised at $299.99. We had to put a big sign outside the store explaining the mistake and still had angry shouting people accusing us of bait and switch, etc.

If they truly got 1100 orders for it, and they paid $15-20 per disc, it would be a $5500-$11,000 mistake. I'm sure it's not a huge business, so taking a $5000+ loss in order to keep new customers isn't really in their best interest because most people probably joined just for that one special promo. I havent received the email yet, but understandable when I do. Even Best Buy hasn't honored some of their online pricing mistakes.

I'm afraid the BF deals will be house brand Profile 1.1 players without upgradeablity - Insignia for BB, for example.
The other day I noticed a pretty large supply of Iron Man BD disc at one of the Walmarts, but they had it marked up.
On Walmart's website, they offer the disc for less and have a site to store option which they say will take 7-10 days. Do they ever just take it out of inventory and have it sooner?

No. They actually ship it to the store from a central location. Its a different inventory system and all. What you can do is this: Buy it in store. Order it ship to store. When it arrives ship to store, return it unopened on the store receipt. That way you enjoy it today and also pay the smaller price.

It is, but only 7 discs compared to the 10 being sold by the online retailers like Amazon and WB. At least that is what it says on the BB online website.
UK Ronin is region locked to B
It was posted to be OTHERWISE I think:confused:
Cedrock 10-09-08, 02:00 PM Is this the Ultimate Matrix box set?
Yea it is the ultimate matrix box set, like bases1616 said its only showing 7 disc on their site (which has no picture) so looks like we'll have to wait to see if its actually the 7 or 10 disc version.
The 30% off warner coupon is down for me too :(

rboster 10-09-08, 04:14 PM I can personally verify that it's region B since I have a copy that won't play in my region A player. :( My fault for not being on top of it BEFORE I placed the order. Lesson learned. ;)
mjmbond 10-09-08, 04:21 PM Amazon has Dark Knight up for sale for $26.95 also.
Not "also" anymore. WB now has it @ $29.95.

I've bought HD DVDs from iNetVideo. They are safe, but some of the movies have english+french covers. Not sure how blu-rays will be since BDs are new to them. Shipping charges are higher than most places, so it depends how many movies you're buying, etc...
Smarty-pants 10-09-08, 05:40 PM INetVideo has good prices, especially on HD-DVDs, but with the limited selection of Blu-rays available, and their high shipping costs, there's really no "deal" to be had. Now if I could order 20 BRs at $10 a piece and they came out to an average of $12 each including s/h, then that might be a good deal, BUT... they only have like 4 of them that are $10, and the prices go UP UP UP after that.
toneman 10-09-08, 06:19 PM We once saw a $2999 big screen mistakenly advertised at $299.99. We had to put a big sign outside the store explaining the mistake and still had angry shouting people accusing us of bait and switch, etc.
Just goes to show that there are more than a few people out there (not you) who don't know what "bait and "switch" really is/means; there's a difference between telling someone that you no longer have the item at that price (but we have something else available that we can sell to you), vs. telling them that the price for that item was a mistake. Informing customers of a pricing error is not bait and switch, no matter how hard these angry customers try to spin it...

Pssssst. Amazon isn't Warner Bros. Just thought I'd let you know.
jahummer 10-09-08, 08:33 PM The Amazon and WB listings are wrong. It has seven discs, not ten. (I received mine from the WB store early, and it has seven discs.)
That is correct: 2 for the Matrix, 1 each for the sequels & Animatrix and 2 for the special features. Love the new slim cases, got them today.

The price for Dark Knight has gone up and down in the last 12 hrs. at Amazon and Warner Bros. At Amazon it started off $26.95 in the a.m. but by the afternoon was lowered to $24.95. Warner Bros. also originally had it at $26.95 but then raised the price a few hrs. later to $29.95. So depending on when you check the price may have changed.

does anyone know of any links out there for Blu Ray coupons, such as we used to have here in this forum on page one. Just curious!
jlkeeton 10-10-08, 11:03 PM Looks like the Family Video 9.99$ Journey to the Center of the Earth deal fell through. They canceled my order:
We regret to inform you that, due to a pricing error, we will not be able to fulfill your order of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” on Blu-ray Disc for $9.99. We have canceled your order and refunded your credit card the charge of $9.99 per copy ordered plus applicable tax and shipping.
I'm sure others are going to be getting these soon enough. Maybe some will go through for lucky ones!!
suffolk112000 10-10-08, 11:12 PM With the economy slowing, we could be in for some slow growth from Blu Ray over the next several months or so.
suffolk112000 10-10-08, 11:15 PM When are the good holiday sales going to start?
I am thinking if there are going to be sales... we will see holiday sales start right after Holloween, early in November.
Scubawoman 10-10-08, 11:41 PM Deep discount sale usually is in Nov. sometime. I think 20% off usually but not for advance order items.

same here: they include a $5 coupon code for repurchasing the title for $21.99 (after the $5 coupon) though...I'll pass this title for now and maybe use the code for something else...
Dan Hitchman 10-11-08, 12:30 PM I just noticed that Lost: Season 4 is down to $52.95 at Amazon.

For Warner Bros. try code ANNMES for 25% off. I tried it with just ordering The Dark Knight, nothing else in the cart and the discount still applied (apparently you don't have to order at least 2 discs as I thought). Unknown expiration
LBFilmGuy 10-11-08, 04:46 PM Damn that sucks about the Warner code.
I'm just glad some of us got in on TDK pre-order :D
Dave Mack 10-11-08, 05:07 PM This has probably been mentioned but Amazon has now discontinued their 30 day price protection guarantee. Bummed. They change prices so often it's ridiculous. I always had a good 30 days to get the adjustment, (like with Nightmare Before Xmas) which dropped down by $4.00 the week after I bought it.
BuckNaked 10-11-08, 07:28 PM WHV 30% off will return.....it always does.
I thought AUBM8 was the discount for August anyway, so no surprise that one was expired. I didn't even look for a September code since the 30% was working... and haven't seen an October code yet. I tried a few variants on the format from August but haven't guessed right yet.
