Anyone ever try to mount a tower speaker to the wall?

Ive got Polk r50s 6 of them total plus a polk center and im building a 7.1setupd. I already had the r50s which is why i chose to keep them rather than buy satelites to begin with. Anyway I want to mount 2 of them on the walls for rear surround. Moving the couch forward isnt an option as its a sectional and will give up alont of space and look retarded. So how do i do this?

I thought about trying to build a shelf but i wonder if that will be stabel enough and im concerned these may rattle off the shelf.

next idea was to drill into the cabinet of the speaker and put a braket into it but i really dont want to do that. Is that my only option?

Im thinking of doing the same thing with my 5.1, using a shelf supported by brackets. Any reason not to do so based on sound issues?

it would put the tweeter a bit too high(i mean 6-12" up would be fine but why not build a box instead of a shelf in that case), and a lot of towers are ported in the rear which would effect quality as well....
