Finally, a concert to look forward to on BD....Although, like most of their fans, I'll probably enjoy their material from the 70's & 80's more so than their recent efforts. HiDefDigest rating: PQ - 4.5/5, SQ - 4/5. Any other concert fans looking forward to the 'bearded ones' on BD?!:cool::cool:

hey!, Mescalero, Rythmeen, XXX, Antenna are all fabulous work, ZZ Top are simply in a league of their own

Billy Gibbons is one of the most under appreciated guitarists of all time, every hardcore guitar player will tell you that he is something seriously special ;)

can't wait for this!!!

I'm all over it - had it pre-ordered since day one. It's great to hear it's top notch AQ and PQ as well.

Are they actually going to perform a song they didn't steal from John Lee Hooker (or some other blues artist)?:p

Sorry, I couldn't help myself there. I'll be looking forward to the day when we'll be seeing some more (or any for that matter) straight-ahead blues being released on the format.

I saw them live in DC for the "green album" tour.... front row balcony.............1974? They warmed up Ted Nuggent And The Amboy Dukes.
I will never forget that night of ZZ Top music!! I have their first five or six record albums and all of their CD's.
My pre-order is complete..... I've been waiting for this for about ten or twelve years.

I ordered the DVD Video not the Blu-Ray.....
Comment/question..........OK... seems like one big rip off that the Blu-Ray disc is only DTS and not Tru-HD. Just seems like the rule should be ALL Blu-Rays should be the new Tru-HD ect.

The Blu-ray has DTS HD MA (=lossless), so there you go. Wanna exchange that DVD now? :p

This was the word I was waiting to hear before I decide to buy. Last night in Houston they had a release party at the Hard Rock Cafe, I really wanted to go but could not. Now that I know it has DTS-HD MA I am going to have to go look for it. :D

Did Amazon omit anything??

Amazon only prints what they have from the auto forms that they have. The BD has DTS-MA(which some could argue is better than TrueHD. I won't;))

It's got DTS HD MA 5.1, Dolby 5.1 and LPCM 2.0.

The audio is awesome and video is stellar, even if it is 1080i. I had never seen ZZ Top before, I had only listened to a greatest hits cd, and I m glad I picked this blu ray up. Otherwise I never would have known the awesomeness that I was missing.

Frank Beard lives about 1.5 miles from me. One of these days I'm going to run into him at the store or on the golf course. He's a scratch golfer.

Watched my copy last night. PQ and AQ were fantastic. The colours of the drum kit especially stand out to me. You see every little detail in the equipment, clothes, faces, eveything. The DTS HD MA track sounds wonderful. Great Blu Ray concert.

agreed. He rocks! Too bad we couldn't get any Stevie Ray stuff out as well but unfortunately all his concerts were just shot in SD video.

-GaryI disagree. While Stevie was an amazing guitar player, he'd be the first to admit he "borrowed" quite a lot of his stuff from mainstream blues musicians, espeicially Freddie King, Albert King, Buddy Guy and Hendrix (who himself "borrowed" from Buddy Guy in particular). So in effect, while you say that Stevie is being "ripped-off" by other artists, all they're doing by extension, is "stealing" from other blues artists who they've probably never even heard of. And that's the real shame.:(

Dave, I didn't necessary mean 100% music wise, you are dead on in your assessment of Stevie and those who have ripped him off, he took a lot of stuff from a lot of guys, no one will replace Otis, Buddy, Freddie, Albert and the like but he was still special ;)

walk into any blues club, guitar store or check out alot of the latest greatest artists out there, you will find so many of them ripping Stevie off it is pathetic, complete with SRV tattoo's, funky dress style and even his custom Fender

John Mayor is the biggest hack job rip off POS I have ever seen, as is Kenny Shepherd, Mayor looks like he sits in front of a mirror and practices SRV licks all day :o

the state that music is in today it doesn't surprise me that someone can make a career out of ripping someone else off, I once heard Mayor fans debating what his SRV tattoo might mean

I know. Don't get me started on the whole John Mayer thing....
Yes, Stevie had influences previously noted but they were "influences" and then he took all of them and ran with it and took it all further.
But Mayer is simply shameless. Yes he is pretty talented but so are a million karaoke singers who flawlessly emulate other singers every weekend in the bars.
He was on the cover or RS last year I think as a new "guitar god" and I almost hurled.
(I too actually have a Fender SRV strat, but as anyone can tell by listening to my CD samples, don't play anything like him.)
The fact that John Mayer now has a signature strat is just jaw-dropping. He tries to sound exactly like Stevie so what's the difference? You want to sound like John Mayer playing the blues, buy the the SRV strat and call it a day....

BTW: As long as we're on the subject, Stevie's older brother Jimmie (an excellent guitarist in his own right) is still touring. I like his stuff. Unfortunately he hasn't put out a solo album in almost a decade.

Jimmie is just as good as Stevie IMHO, I love his unique telly tone, but ever since Stevie died he hasn't been the same

that should be a good axe Dave, nice classic model, I am sure you will love it

my brother is a jazz freak and swears by his G&L Telly(he had me mod it for him for a dual humbucker in the front), but he has kinda put it aside for a new Yamaha SG he found

you guitar players are certainly a weird bunch :)

this thread has been sidetracked :p , I need to order this release and see what it's about ;)
