question for you all...or for those that own a plasma and a lcd...

I've owned a panasonic 42pwd8uk (480p 42" professional model) for the past three years. It's been fantastic...I've never ever seen a picture so clear as it is on this 42" plasma...i've seen some better pictures here and there on other plasmas.

anyways, I recently bought a Samsung 52a650 and it's great that it works well in bright lit room. however, the picture...I don't know...I was expecting wow when I got it like my plasma...but, from three feet away, there is a lot of pixelation. but, from 12 feet away, can't tell anything and it looks great. But, it just isn't jawdropping like I thought it would be??? anyone have that feeling? I'm just curious for opinions/thoughts/experiences???

I'm 50/50 on keeping the 52a650....i will also say, that I bought a samsung 5054 plasma two months ago and ended up selling that one to a friend. it had really bad glare in our family room (lots of windows and natural sunlight). but, that picture didn't really knock me back either.

but seriously, with my 42pwd8uk...it's simply amazing...and it's freaking 480p!! resolution doesn't mean jack to me. I should do picture side by side so you all can see what I'm talking about.

please don't think i'm a fanboy here of panasonic/plasma/samsung/lcd...just trying to get real experiences/thoughts?

it's weird cause in the stores they all looks pretty darn good. i'm probably being too picky.

There was a reason nobody replied to this thread, yet you bring it back from the dead 7 months later.

search around and you will see some peeps share the same opinion. I showed the panasonic side by side against the samsung and the panasonic won hands down when i polled friends and family (EVERY TIME)! I should have taken photos to include here. darn it!

Both tv's had same feed (comcast dvr box) and actually, i used component for panasonic and hdmi for samsung.

i did end up selling the samsung 52" lcd and keeping my 480p Panasonic pro-model. :)-

Just being honest...

Were you watching an SD broadcast? Only then does it make sense.

nope, that would be cheating...I was watching abc sports on high def channel...it was a duke game or something...can't remember...but, it was in high def.

one part of me thinks it has to do with screen size, ie, notice how a rinky dinky 13" tv always looks really good?? But, this isn't all of it...the wimpy low resolution plasma just outshines the lcd (regardless of 1080p resolution).

Until you see them side by side, you won't know what I mean.

anyways, let's drop it...I don't want people to start calling me fanboy or whatever...it's what I saw, it's what people who came over saw...enough so, that I sold the lcd and kept my plasma.

Why don't you just get a Pio Kuro 5020FD? It's 1080p (duh) and I bet will surpass your panny in terms of picture contrast and impact. Not that your set isn't quality, but the advancements Pioneer has made have raised the bar.

I know what you mean, chicagoster. I am still very impressed with my 42pwd8uk on all types of material. I probably won't replace it for at least a couple more years....
