Apparently there are 2 cuts a US one and a European cut. They are trying to combine both on the 1 Blu-Ray so you can choose which one you want to watch on the Blu-Ray Edition.

From another forum-

Dear Mr. XXX,

Thank you for your email and your suggestions about our DVD releases.

Kick Boxer:
The problem here is still that the two versions have a different format, which is unfortunately not so easy to cut together, otherwise we would have done this long time ago. We are also film fans and advocate for possibilites uncut versions. For this reason, there are currently considerations, as part of a BluRay release a so-called "Uncut version", where a version within the choice given to the other version "to jump". This possibility of the technically adequate implementation is currently being tested and is in the planning.

Yours sincerely,

Splendid Film GmbH

If it's under $20 I'm in, but I'll be very dissappointed if it ends up retailing for $30 + like commando. I love cheesy 80's movies but I'm not paying that much for em'.

Thanks. I am suprised no one has bought it and put up images yet, maybe not the most popular film ever for HD, but it has its fans (Me) :D

It will be a good indication of what some of the lother cheapo VD films will look like. Cybord in HD would be nice  (well who knows).

I bought the disc a couple of weeks ago. The transfer is fairly decent. Lots of grain but quite sharp and nice if you don't expect too much.

Thanks. Hey I guess it is a 20 year old basic cheap action film, most people will never have even seen the widescreen version, so the Blu Ray will be a massive upgrade for many :)

That cover is still hilariously dodgy :D

In your opinion is Amazon.de still the cheapest place to order it from online? (Since your local and know what pricing is around the place)

I was shocked by how good this BD looks :)

I NEVER thought I would EVER see a movie like Kickboxer with a fine HD master like this one.

Sure, it´s no Transformers. But for a lowbudget Martial Arts movie from the late 80:s, it looks AWESOME :)

I was also surprised to see the Lions Gate logo at the beginning of the movie. So I guess a US BD version from that company with the same master might be on the horizon ;)

Does anyone know how this German version of Kickboxer compare with the Lionsgate version that just came out in the US? I have a region free player and will import if the image and sound quality is better than most of the reviiews I've seen for the United States version.

I was surprised by this quote. The US release I have is missing a lot to the grain mentioned and looks a little smeared (DNR). The detail is intact and the color reproduction looks good. Even if the GER release was region free I doubt I could justify paying $40 for another release, even if it it was a release that looked more like film than the US edition.

I wonder if Rathbone is confusing grain with film damage? A bit is noticable in the US release as blue streaks that sometimes appear.
