View Full Version : July, Who's Buying What?

Well, we've had a monthly who's buying what thread for awhile and it's now June 22, so I suppose it's time to start one for July.

There seems to be quite a few July releases, having 5 Tuesdays in the month helps I'm sure.

Anyway a definite buy on release for me is The Hunt for Red October.

Rental and possible BOGO at a future date are: Clear and Present Danger, In the Line of Fire and Patriot Game.

Rental only are The Band's Visit, The Bank Job, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

BTW, The Bank Job must be the first Jason Statham movie that ever received a good review.

In my book, July is a slow month. Having been bi-format, many of those titles are owned in the Red flavor. I'm not in a big hurry to spend money to replace them. The process will be slow and choosy, and waiting for sale prices.

So...the only two titles I'm jazzed about are:

'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'
'Dark City'

Gangs of New York (Walt Disney)

July 08, 2008
Batman Begins (Limited Edition Gift Set) (Warner)

The Bank Job (2008) (Lionsgate)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Warner)

July 29, 2008

This is not a bad month, compared to typical non-holiday release months. I have Dark City and One Flew Over... pre-ordered from the Warner store, and I'll probably get The Lost Boys, Shine a Light, and maybe Gangs of New York and The Hunt for Red October. Batman Begins is one of those titles I have on HD DVD, so I'll wait until I can get it very cheaply. I'm not going to spend $20 just to have it on BD, but for $10 or less I'll bite (yes, I realize that could take a long, long time).

I'll get the Roy Orbison disc if it has the proper 4:3 aspect ratio, but I don't think that's the case.

I will only pick up Batman: Gotham Knight if it has a lossless soundtrack. Specs right now indicate it may be lossy only.

I wasn't a big fan of the 90's slashers(Scream sucked) I'll get Urban Legends in a bogo or if it hits 14.99 or below since Daniel Harris is hot in it:p And I agree bring on Friday the 13th. Luckily BU is releasing Maniac(one of my favs) this year.

Here is some information on them. Basically, they are more documentaries made by BBC. I'm a documentary lover in general so I think these will be awesome. I hope I'm not wrong on that.

Is Stargate: The Ark Of Truth coming out on Blu-Ray? I was holding out for possibly an HD DVD version in Europe but that obviously doesn't look likely now, lol! It seems weird that they'd bring out Continuum before The Ark Of Truth though.

Same date as the new one. Amazon has it for $20 and you can get it from the WHV store for around $16 after the 30% off code. I got it for $14 before they raised the base price.

Did you know that Vantage Point was originally going to be the first 24 movie? There are couple of funny little clues like each vantage point being 23 minutes long and Dennis Quaid's character saying "Dammit!" a lot, lol!

Yes sir, I learned that lesson years ago with DVD. I will on occassion blind buy as I just did with the Ganges documentary but those types of movies are a bit are safer to buy.
