Hey guys. I have been playing with my Ps3 for 2 weeks now, and always noticed a Buzzing noise. After doing tests today, i found out that in my RCA audio output, as soon as the PS3 is connected to the power outlet, it makes a buzzing noise to my ampli or TV, even if its shutdown (power off, red light).

my ampli is fine with any other source. so WTF.

I hear that lazer ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ even when the ps3 is off like i said. As soon as it gets connected...

What kind of problem is that? thanks

Id take it back to walmart, but i dont wanna lose all my saves and i dont want to lose my PSN etc..

am i ****ed?

you have an AC ground loop. It's very common with the PS3.

It's an easy fix, though. You can buy a 3-prong to 2-prong "cheater plug" adapter, or just saw off the 3rd prong on the power connector (I'd use a spare PC power plug though, just in case you have to return the PS3!). That solves the problem and no, it isn't dangerous. Lots of people have analyzed this and have discovered the 2 grounds originate from the same point in the PS3, making the third plug redundant.

JUST NEVER EVER PLUG IT IN WITH THE PLUG UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!

The ground loop is caused by the fact the PS3 uses 2 prongs for grounding. Any difference in the potential of either ground can result in noise. You could call an electrician to fix it, but the cheap way is the $1.50 cheater plug from Wal-Mart.

You could put all of your saves on a flash drive and return the PS3 get a new one and load the flash drive onto your new PS3.

Here is a thread where the hard drive was backed up onto a flash drive while the hard drive was being replaced.

Are the different components (TV,PS3,etc.) using different outlets (location-wise)? This can also cause the ground loop, as the different oulets could have a small difference in ground potential between the two.
