Just wondering if anybody out there has a PS3 paired with a Yamaha 663 receiver and would be willing to share what your PS3 audio settings are?

I just got this receiver and I've got things hooked up. I had my PS3 previously just connected to the TV directly with no receiver and/or surround sound (my first surround setup and receiver).

Now I've got 5.1 surround and the receiver and just wondering what I should be doing in the PS3 audio settings to get things set "correctly". Been trying to search around other threads but topics are all over the board.

Just not sure which "boxes" to check in the PS3 audio output options. I see choices for Dolby digital, linear, PCM, etc. I think the receiver supports alot of this...should I be checking multiple boxes or just one? Any other settings on the PS3 I should pay attention to?

Wondering if somebody could shed some light on exactly which settings to concentrate on. Or if you have links to other helpful sites or threads, that would be appreciated also.

Are you running HDMI into your 663? If so then set the PS3 to do audio and video over HDMI, then let it auto select the audio settings, it will determine what types of audio your receiver can handle (pretty much anything).

For watching Blu Ray movies set the PS3 to PCM, and make sure to select the lossless audio option (TrueHD, uncompressed PCM, etc.) in the movies setup menu.

For DVD's, set the PS3 to bitstream.

-IMO, of course.

That about covers everything I did minus the bitstream for DVD.

In the BD/DVD menu select LPCM for HDMI output. In the Display select HDMI for connection (if applicable to your setup), then auto for the PS3 to detect the supported resolutions. The display menu will lead you to the sound menu. Select HDMI connection, then select auto for the PS3 to detect the audio settings supported by the AVR.

Also try out the scene buttons too. I mostly use straight for BD, but for games I use action games. I was surprised by the amount of sound detail in COD 4 that I was missing from my Sony 800. Little sounds while walking through bushes on overgrown...

Good luck.

Helpful posts....thank you.

Yes, I am running HDMI from the PS3 to the receiver. Also running the HD cable box using HDMI into the receiver. Then I have 1 HDMI out from the receiver to the TV (Panny 50PZ800).

Planning to sit down and hook things up in the next couple days. I just wanted to be sure of my "plan of attack" before starting. I've been reading manuals and forums like mad and basically everything has jumbled together and I'm not sure what I want to do.

This all seems like a pretty big task....and I keep telling myself it shouldn't be that difficult once I dive into it.

All I really have to hook up is a PS3 and HD DVR cable box. Just thinking all I really need are 3 HDMI cords and that should do it (except fort the 5.1 speakers of course).

Appreciate the help with the PS3 settings. Just got a little confused reading threads because it seems like firmware updates have outdated some posts and makes it difficult deciding what settings are the right ones to follow.
