I'm getting an hdmi receiver in the next few weeks. I'm wondering for those that play rock band. Is the PCM 5.1 audio when using hdmi? I'm currently using DD due to my optical audio setup. Thanks.

I do 5.1 over my optical when playing RB, so I don't know why you can't do the same.

And yes, you can do 5.1 over HDMI.

I have an hdmi receiver and Rock Band is only Dolby Digital. There is no option for pcm audio, only stereo and DD.

Keep in mind that a lot of people have problems with audio lag when using the DD option. You can try and sync your tv through the auto setup or try it manually but I could never get it perfect. I could get it to where I could play it with no issues but it just didn't seem to be 100% right. Now, I just use the standard audio and use 7 channel enhancer on my Yammy receiver to get simulated surround sound but with no lag.

Sadly, you can only get surround sound (other than whatever matrixing your reciever can do from any stereo source) using DD5.1. That causes extreme lag on the vocals. Using stereo (IOW, PCM) over HDMI, there's very little if any vocal lag.

On my Onkyo 705 DD introduced an additional 65 ms of lag... this is not a problem unless you plan on doing a lot of singing.... as the lag willl make singing difficult.
