Rumor: Kratos to appear as PS3 exclusive SCIV character

According to the rumor mill in the August issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Kratos, God of Soul, is to appear as a PS3 exclusive character in Soul Calibur IV.

The magazine states that Kratos will be the next PS3 character revealed, so if the rumor is in fact true, we should be seeing something soon. Also, this will be the first look at Kratos on next gen hardware, and possibly a first glimpse at what to expect from God of War III. Obviously if Kratos appears in SCIV, Namco has cut some deal with Sony, and could be sharing actual assets or character concepts from the upcoming PS3 exclusive.




PSU.com has contacted Namco Bandai on the rumor, so we should be receiving official word shortly.

They are still waiting on confirmation. So no update just yet.

Update: We have received word from Namco Bandai on the recent rumor, however as you'd expect, the PR department cannont comment or confirm the rumor.

"We don't comment on rumors or speculations," said Namco Bandai representative.

Nevertheless, stay tuned to PSU.com, as we will be posting our exclusive interview with Namco Bandai later this week which will provide all new details on Soul Calibur IV.

No Yoda is on the 360. The secret apprentice is on both versions. There were rumors that it will be possible to get both characters on each version at a later date after it releases. Unless of course you have the latest info on that.

both charectars will be dsold later via dlc for each system. Obviously kratos won't be included in that. While I like kratos I think he's be way too unbalanced for SC. I wouldn't be suprised if he becomes the next necrid. congrats to the ps3 soul cal fans though.

Doubt it. They had a female version of Master Chief on DOA 4 when it released. I am back at work so I can't check if the site has been updated if anyone can see if they were able to get confirmation from Namco.

it wasn't said explicitly but when the director was asked if that was a possibility the director stated that they would be looking to make everyone in teh future happy. since he didn't deny it. I'll say they aren't ruling it out. Especially since they have said they will be releasing a lot of DLC characters for purchase.

I want Darth Maul as an add-on as well. And of course 2 on 2 fights would be awesome. Lizard Man and Vader versus Link and Yoda :D

I didn't know about additional DLC characters. That sounds good.

Would love to see MGS4 Raiden as another PS3-exclusive. His level should be in the middle east, with three statues in the background, one of them of course being Old Snake in octocamo covering the other statue's naughty bits. :D

Have they given any indication of whether future character updates will be microtransactions (shudder) or just straight d/l's? And if the former, how much they'd cost?

This makes me wish they'd make a giant game where nintendo characters, sony characters and microsoft characters (at least system wise) would all fight. You could call it... super sony microtendo melee! It would be a lot of fun to see kratos against mario against masterchief...

$5.00 to unlock a skin that's already ON the disk.. that uses an existing move set, and has an empty space on the roster for him to appear already?

$.99 i could see.. hell i could even accept $1.99 .. but $4.99 is just a blatnet money grab..

As for this, I highly doubt it would be the same if true that he was coming. 2 characters on screen versus many on an actual God of War game. Just look at Link on Soul Calibur II, not even close. It would have been awesome if he had all those moves in a zelda game and looked that good.

Microtransactions don't suck--unreasonable microtransactions suck. I have no problem with the $21-ish I have invested in Pain, for example.

While this is great news for Soul Calibur fans, it still kinda sucks. Why? Well, let me tell you...

All the character models that will be appearing as microtransactions are already on the disc that you paid $60 for. All they are doing is unlocking what is already there. Those models should have been good to go from the minute you put down your $60.

Many people won't care, however, this does not sit well for me. If more developers go this route, then we're getting "nickel and dimed" for gaming extras.

I miss the days where unlockables were rewards for finishing the game,nowadays you're charged for every extra piece of clothing,it's ridiculous.Not to forget that this gen saw game prices jump from 49.99 to 59.99.So in essence,your inital investment of $60 becomes $70-$80 to add,in some cases,things that are sometimes already on the disc and should be free.$5 for a character who was obviously already on the disk is str8 nickel and diming,and I hope people respond with their wallets.Thats the only thing that's gonna break this increasingly disturbing trend.

Nope, I feel the same way. The only add-on I've ever purchased for a game was the first Warhawk expansion pack and I wish I would have never done that because I barely touched it.

I was one of those people who couldn't understand why everybody got so bent out of shape when MS announced they'd be getting exclusive GTA IV content. GTA IV wasn't even _that_ fantastic. I haven't been able to finish the main game let alone more content to follow.

For the fanatics of certain games I guess it's a nice little reward to keep playing. I think Team Fortress 2 on the PC is doing a great job, but all that stuff is free. The content for Fallout 3 on the 360 will no doubt have some takers. Another example of DLC done right would be how GH:III and Rock Band release new material for the game. That makes sense.

What makes me mad about the SCIV content is exactly what King Shorty said, the stuff is already on the disc. All of the stuff they've released for $3 a pop is stuff you can earn in the game if you take the time to play it.

I guess it depends on the title and how it's implemented, but for the most part DLC isn't that big of a deal to me. New maps for COD4 was a nice way to keep that game fresh for a little while longer for me but not a make or break kind of thing.

It depends. The bowling game just came out with updates that I think are great but I will probably not have much time to get into; on the other hand, Burnout's updates always bring me back to the game with new stuff to do. Map packs are another example of this.

How about some DLC to make the game fun? Forget crappy characters like kratos, rerelease the game and fix it. I loved 2 and played it for years, like alot of others I sold SC4 after a month or so.

I was in love with the game for about a month and popped it in again last week. Still a fun time but there's just not enough there in the way of single player gameplay that makes me want to sit down and play it for an extended period of time. My copy may be hitting Goozex pretty soon.

The only reason I still have my copy is the legion of friends that would give me dirty looks if I got rid of it. Interestingly, these people never actually want to play it when they come over :p It might end up helping me get Guitar Hero for a little cheaper.

Same here. I've got a few buddies who love it but are far more concerned with playing NHL, FIFA or Wipeout HD these days. I bought the primo-edition too. Cool little art book and t-shirt I just may keep and get rid of the game itself. Goozex has turned out to be my new favorite addiction. Final Fantasy 1 on the PSP just showed up this week!
