I was wondering, I actually play in a REAL rock band and perform concert every two weeks. (covers of incubus, Stone temple pilot, U2,..... And our own songs) How do real musicians feel about this game? Just wondering.
The game sure looks great and fun but I know it will never replace the real thing of course.

I would love to have a full Rock Band/Guitar Hero game dedicated to the beatles. The world tour mode could be a carrear mode that starts in a du-wop, hold your hand, suit and tie, short hair phase all the way to the final long hair, psychadelic, Dig a Pony, Don't let me down show played on the roof of Abby Road studio.

Sweet

The same way that everybody else does. Some hate it, some love it, and some won't even give it a chance.

I play in a "REAL" band too and it's just a different experience. You're playing a video game period. It doesn't mean that it isn't great fun though. If you like music and you like video games then this should appeal to you.

I've been playing music live for about 20 years at this point and I love RockBand. It's a blast at parties, and it's a blast to play with my wife. It's a video game--of course it's not going to replace the real thing. It's not meant to.

Weirdo said it best, "The same way that everybody else does. Some hate it, some love it, and some won't even give it a chance."

Just like how some snobby musicians would say playing covers isn't being a "real musician." Luckily, I am not one of them. Some people take themselves way too seriously, and I find musicians who look down on RockBand and Guitar Hero as beneath them tend to be annoying in other aspects, too. When I read someone say "Take the time to really learn how to play an instrument, instead," I want to break their fingers so they can't do either without a great amount of pain. Of course, I have anger issues. :D

Luckily, I don't know any snobby musicians who have a problem with playing other people's music. In fact, those I know who perform are doing much better for themselves financially now that they've "sold out" and mainly do covers. I guess being a good cover band really is lucrative. I don't know if you could make enough at it to buy a jet like you can in Rock Band, however. ;)

Then there are the guys who are content playing their original music within a couple of hours of home solely on the weekends while holding down their 9-5, like my mechanic.

As far as your last statment, yeah, that's just stupidity. A fine suggestion, sure, but far too many people let it get beyond that and are adamant that playing games is stupid and playing a real instrument is the only thing worth doing that relates to music. *******s.

Personally, I'd play the guitar if my fingers would cooperate. I once learned some, and it was fine, but half of the chords were painful to impossible for my joints. Raw fingers didn't bother me so much. Constant joint pain that continued for several days of rest did, so I'll remain content with being mildly uncomfortable playing with a plastic guitar-shaped controller. Maybe I should take up the kazoo. :D

Thanks guys for the replies about my question. I've being playing guitar for around 19 years. The game sure looks like lots of fun, Might give it a try I think the kids and the wife will like it.

Doing covers is not a bad thing. It gets you live performances. Ours is doing that and also we are implementing few of our songs to hear and see peoples reactions. So far it's being great. Little by little you'll get to get known for your own songs instead of covers.

The wife and kids liking it is what will make it so much fun. It's a great way to spend time with the family. And, apart from squabbles about who gets to play drums :D, it's nice that with the band aspect you are working towards a common goal as opposed to competing against each other.

It's like playing Simon Says while listening to good music, really.

And, Weirdo--short of being in a signed touring band, playing covers is more lucrative than playing originals many times over with few exceptions. You'll always have people who suffer for their art and integrity, and you'll always have people who simply want to have fun and make a few bucks.

And I've found Rock Band drums to be a really fun experience. The guitar is pretty good too but the drums take it to another level.

I really hope they don't release this as a stand alone disc where I have to take my other disc out and insert this one.

These stand alone, one band only discs are step in the wrong direction. I want my entire library of purchased songs to be integrated.
