i have a toshiba d-r400 bought from circuit city. i have lost the manual,started burning a dvd last week worked great but won't play in anything else. tried -r and +r .need help,anyone have a manual???

Finalize the disc before attempting to play your recording on other players....then go searching for the manual.

went into setup placed to auto finalize . still have same problem. i think manual was tossed with box.

You need to do the "finalize disk" - not just set auto-finalize. I don't have my 400 hooked up, but find the finalize in the setup disk menu and that will fix (close) your disk so it can play on other machines. Btw, you can find the manuals online and download a PDF - try Google or http://www.retrevo.com/ to get one. Or it may be on the Toshiba site.

Also, if you set "auto-finalize" you will only be able to record one show to a disk. I do not like it, so I leave it off and finalize myself when ready. Once you find it under the menu and do it once, you will see it is very easy. (There's more to this, but let's keep it simple.)

So, my recommendation, turn auto-finalize OFF and finalize yourself (via the menu for this) when you've finished recording to a DVD.
