You probably want to list your price range. And post it in the Display Devices section.

yup, wrong area. You'll get better advice elsewhere on AVS.

I think 50" is more than enough for any home theater. In my case I would recommend the best Sony lcd you can afford

hehe, yeah wrong area, but I can offer a few hints.

1st choice would be the Samsung 81 series LCD's: the Sammy's deep blacks are the only thing that competes with the Plasma's and it also has some of the latest tech like 120hz processing etc.

Beyond that you can go down a long list of competitors that offer different price and feature points, I like Sharp and Sony myself for LCD's, but there are plenty of good ones out there.

I think the new 750s are performing better than the 81s. Also, I do not believe the 81 had 120hz, but the 71 did.

If you can find one, the Sony SXRDs offer an outstanding picture for a great price.

They handle motion better than any LCD I've seen, too. Note that they are projection sets though.

This thread is fast becoming useless.

Too many opinions, not enough facts.

^^ This. I have yet to see a picture that compares to my 60" SXRD XBR2. Rear projection sets are bulkier, but the deep blacks it has to deliver a picture with stunning "pop" is second to none IMHO.

Tvs are for the kids to watch cartoons on, you need a projector

Agree with Joe, I one upped him and have a 70" XBR2 and it's still one of the best pictures I've seen yet.

Unfortunately every time I move, I have to fit my apartment around my TV :o

I agree about the projection units having a better picture. I had a killer Mitsu CRT RPTV, 1080i, but my house is far to small for it, so I sold it and got an LCD. I guess it all depends on what you have space for.

BUT - He did ask for an LCD, so I answered accordingly.

SXRDs are LCDs, technically.

They're mono-color LCDs, but LCDs nonetheless.

dude... i got a samsung ln46a750 and my gf has a sharp 82u... both sets are just amazing with the PS3 and 360.

i dont think u can go wrong with any nice lcd brand.

but, imo i definitly recomend the sammy, ;)

These threads always crack me up because they may as well be a template.

1. Somebody asks what is the best LCD for them
2. Everybody rattles off what LCD they own and says it's the best (or why LCD's suck and they should get "X" which, by no small coincidence, is what said poster owns).
3. Rinse, repeat

Awesome.

Picking up an HDTV is never easy. Sony, Samsung, Sharp, JVC, LG, ...Are the best to many. Other brands cheaper but still very good like Vizio, Westinghouse,...
It all depends on your budget.
I was on a budget and got the Vizio 37xl and I was surprised. Very good set.
But check out the newer model with deeper blacks.
My next set will be at least 52" with 1080p, probably a Samsung or Sony.

I would wait and go with a Mitsu laser DLP, or if you can't wait Pioneer makes a sick plasma.

I very curious why the OP is so set on an LCD when plasmas have as good (if not better) pictures and handle motion (which means gaming) much better than LCDs....

Martez

Maybe it's for a room with lots of sunlight, or he's worried about burn-in. Aren't plasmas bulkier/heavier, too?

This thread is going to turn out awesome...and it will seem so appropriate in this forum :)

My 2 cents: There is no one TV that's best for gaming. Find your budget, look for the best TV from Samsung, Sony or Sharp in that price range that was released in the past year and a half and you'll be good to go. A reasonable price range for that size is $1500 or so.

Just keep response time in mind. Anything 8ms or below will look fine, go for 6 or below if you have picky eyes.

steven975

unfortunately the response time indicated is usually the best case. One can have a higher stated latency rating, yet be more consistent overall and possibly significantly better.
