I'm copying from my Panny SD9 to my hard drive, and the info says the 5.1 GB of data is transferring at 7.5 MB/sec. Now, since there are 8 bits to a byte, that would mean 7.5 x 8 bits = about 600 Mbps. Isn't USB 2 capped at 480? This is a sustained read from Class 6 card in the Panny, to my Ubuntu hard drive. I would expect an initial burst at that rate, but not the sustained transfer indicated throughout the 6-7 minutes it took to move that amount.

It is early in the morning, and what you are missing is that 7.5 x 8 is 60 and not 600. USB actually has throughputs considerably less that its rated max, which is just a burst speed.
