Well, the grand daughter is almost two and is getting so cute we need to capture this time of her life on video, so I need to start researching hand held Digital Camcorders.

I saw one once that had several gigs of memory built in (or on one of those memory cards), but it also had the ability to burn your video onto DVD right there in the device.

This would be very handy since you could shoot some video and review it to make sure you like it, and then burn it to a DVD so you could take it directly to your DVD player and watch it on TV.

Does anyone know of any decent quality camcorders that come with these features?

OK, does the Canon DC310 look like a decent quality camcorder?

It does what I'm looking for and on the Best Buy website there are a few good reviews

Sorry man, I'm a bit of a AVCHD / SDHC snob right now & theres more of hassel with this solution then the one you plan on getting. I never had a DVD type of camcorder just tape before avchd. I almost got a Blu Ray camcorder burner, still might.

So the Canon DC310 is a decent camcorder?

I don't care about "blu ray". I just want standard dvd burning.

Later on when I have no choice, I'll get a dvd player that plays both blu ray and standard dvds.

Rockrz,

I have not had time to research your qestion directly but I am surprised to hear that it has an option to record to Flash memory "first" and then to DVD. It was my understanding that the recording actually went to DVD. But I fully admitt I could be wrong.

camecorderinfo.com has a lot of reviews on different cameras.

If you want a High Def DVD camcorder Canon has the HR10 but that does not have the same 37x optical zoom.

Lastly, Bestbuy is not likely your cheapest option, so you may want to shop around for best price. My preference is Costco online as they have a great return policy if you do not like the camera you buy from them and their prices are similar or in some cases much cheaper, than Bestbuy.
