When we complete the DTV transition in February some of the high band UHF channels (52-69) will be reassigned to public safely, cell phone, and other uses. But many of us have existing antennas pre-amps and other equipment that will continue to do a great job of recieving these signals and this may result in overload or other interferrence problems when these new sevices go online.

I am particularly worried because I currently recieve some distant UHF channels and noticed some very close cell phone towers going in directly in line between me and the transmitting towers. It seems that cell phone or other interferrence could become an issue for some folks after the transition.

I expect that some new preamps will eventually be offered with low pass filters tuned to the new frequency assingments. But for some existing users an external filter may be needed. I have looked for low pass filters that address this band to reduce the chance of interferrence, but have not seen anything that semed like a great fit. Are there filters of this type around? If not, are they likly to be offered around the time of the transition? Or, is such interferrence unlikely and I am worried for no reason?

These new services are at lower power levels than TV stations, but it is always possible to be the unfortunate person who is next door to a transmitter. I see measurable digital signal on Qaulcomm's channel 55, but it has never caused an overload for me.

You can buy off-the-shelf 700 MHz lowpass filters for about $20 or so, if you find you really need one.

Thanks,

That is about what I expected. I suspected that these services were at lower power levels and that would make this a non issue for moat people. I will sit tight and see how this plays out after the transition.

Interesting question. Do you have a amp or preamp?
Have you had problems with 2-way communications below ch. 7 or below ch. 14?
I wouldn't worry about it unless you start to have issues that you didn't before.
