I am in the home stretch for my 2nd HT build and would love some suggetions on chairs and carpet given the 1920's style theme. I have included a few pics that can give better insight to color palette and style, but if you want more pics, then go to my sig file for the current build pictures and the 1st HT I finsished a few years back when we lived in Seattle.

Appreciate any suggestions

I really like the big overstuffed victorian type red theater seats for something like this.

Jason - thanks for the quick response on this. Do you have any links to sites or pictures (as they say a picture is worth a thousand.....)

The first thing that came to mind are the chairs with big rounded arms. Here is the first one that I found: (HTmarket)

I think I've seen a model somewhere that the rounded arm extend a little to the front as well.

Perfect. Now you need a really dark carpet with a little bit of light colored accents. A dark carpet will really make a red chair POP and focus you attention to all the Deco accents on the walls.

See Quadrate pattern from Masland (it is in the sandmans thread). Color selection Times Square.

I am struggling a little bit on the carpet side as I am not sure if it should be gold (as in the columns and trim work), burgundy (wall color) or black (ceiling). Am worried that I will be dominating the room in a particular color palette

An options I saw on Google but stuck on this element of the build

I think going with an over the top patten like that will just confuse the eye. If you had solid colors on the wall, I'd say go for it, as your eye would be drawn towards all of the deco in the room. However, with all of the ornate objects already going elsewhere, I'd stick to something more subdued.

Personally, I think a deep burgundy or black carpet would look the best.

Based on the couple of pics you posted I'd say that carpet would be like wearing plaid pants with a striped shirt. Too much going on.

Ahhh choices :)

I used Wexford Town and Country 60050 "The Fairways" for the carpet in a burgandy/gold combo.

It is a commercial carpet and can be found at http://www.cwii.net/Wex%20T&C%20Product%20Line.htm
My local carpet dealer ordered it.

Some shots in the theater.

It is a dark carpet...but really accents both the red and gold in the theater (without being very busy).

I also used black/gold version of the same carpet for the top surfaces of my stage and front surface of my riser. (sorry for the mess... I had just put the screen up)

BIGmouthinDC - how do you know you sit in my office wearing plaid and stripes :p

I agree that it makes sense to draw the eye to the accents vs the floor but am also trying to find that happy balance where people feel the grandeur of the theme but then don't think I skimped (ran out of money) with the carpet.

My wife came in while I was responding to the last post and asked what I was doing. She said since I was asking for opinions (beyond her as the chief opinion maker :D) she was interested in feedback/input on what we should do with the space that is the cabinet above the front speaker and 2 subs.

The space is aprox 12 feet across and the distance from the bottom of the screen to the top of this cabinet is aprox 1 ft.

Should we:

a) Place some type of decor that is long and short?
b) Add carpet to the top (even though it is not a stage)?
c) Do nothing as it could distract the eye?

Black velvet?

And no decor there, as light off the screen is likely to bounce off any decorations and back onto the screen.

Well you asked my opinion and I have a big mouth.

You are doing such a great job I would go first class and ........Rip it ALL out. Cabinets wreck havoc with the speaker sound field and cause resonances Build a fabric covered false wall floor to ceiling hiding all the speakers. Put acoustical treatment covering the entire front wall behind the false wall and screen. Add bass traps to the front corners. Build a sand filled stage for the WOW factor.

Check out BritinVA's thread for construction details.

Tedd - thanks for the input

BIGmouthinDC - yes it seemed obvious that you had an opinion given your track record and moniker.....but then if I was afraid of opinion I would have never posted here in the first place :)

Can not rip out the cabinets (I choose not too that is), given the antique lighting needs somewhere to sit.

I have put sand and acoustical treatment in the front areas to minimize the impact, but I am willing to trade off the perfect set up for function/design. The audience will be my wife and children who to be fair think MP3's sound great in little earphones.

Me personally, I am also the guy that has taken all my CD's/LP's/Photo's/DVD's and put them into a HTPC just for the convenience. I know the audiophiles in the room will say 'blasphemy'.....but heck, if I wanted a perfect audio set up I would have built a recording studio vs a themed HT.

Forum - Keep the suggestions coming as I will definite listen but can not guarantee I will always hear

:D
