I'm a newbie to this forum, but I am hoping you people can help me with what is becoming an extremely frustrating problem. I recently purchased a new Sony Bravia KDL40s4100 LCD HDTV. At the same time, I also upgraded to Dish Network HD with a VIP211 receiver. All the programs look great! Problem is, during commercial breaks when the screen format changes from HD (program) to a 4:3 (commercial) and back to an HD commercial, I get a flicker - just once - right at the start of the HD commercial. Only during commercials does this happen. Once the program resumes, everything is fine until the next commercial break. Does this have something to do with the screen format options on the HD receiver? Is it related to the TV? Are the TV and receiver formatting options working against each other? It does the same thing for the OTA locals I use the dish receiver to tune in, but when I bypass the dish tuner and connect the TV directly to my OTA antenna, there is no flicker! This is driving me (and consequently my wife and kids) nuts! Any thoughts?

Have you tried seeing if this happens an a different output of the Dish box? If you have it connected via HDMI try component.

I'll try that. Right now it's connected via component, but I'll get a HDMI cable and try that tomorrow. I'll post back wih results.

Well, I don't understand it, but switching from component connections to HDMI seems to have solved the flicker. I guess it doesn't matter why, time to just enjoy my new flat screen! Thanks for the advice.
