Is there a way to rip all my game CDs to the Xbox hard drive? I want to be able to recall games from the hard drive without changing anything.

I will need IP (Idiot Proof) instructions.

no, due to copy protection it is not possible; additionally and discussion of any mods which could potentially allow this are also verboten around these parts.

They're DVD's, not CD's.

I suggest you read copyright law and the Digital Millenium Act.

I am sorry, I did not know this was out of the question on the forum. I thought that since all stays inside the xbox, and the only thing I can do is play on it, I was not breaking any copyright or things of that sort.

You can close the thread if you find it appropriate. My fault.

Even if it were possible and allowable, if you figure between 5-8gb per game (pulling #'s out of my a$$ here....) even with 120gb (with what...110gb available?) you could only get 10 or 12 games on there anyhow. If you've got a 20gb drive.....maybe 3 games tops?

Moot point anyhow.

Here it is http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf

Would you kindly point out the exact place that covers the 360 HDD from keeping the game files thus not needing a DVD?

Thanks!

Regardless of whether its legal or not, its also completely impossible to do on the 360.

Where you get into trouble is when you circumvent the DRM on the DVD to get it on your hard drive. That is what they consider the crime.

Where did the OP say the 360?

Yes sir it did.

It was pretty handy for ripping your music CD's and creating your own custom in game soundtracks. Also it allowed for DLC and save games.

I think the original XBox came with an 8 gig hard drive... later revisions I think were upped to 10 gig.

This is really quite bogus. The only thing they really have to hold onto in terms of doing this on the original Xbox (of which is not possible *yet* with the 360) is it requires misusing MS's copyrighted code in a BIOS flashed to a modchip, which is illegal; not the modchip itself, only the fact that it needs a BIOS with portions of MS's copyrighted code. Even this is iffy legally. Just because a broad and generalized statement exists in a copyright law doesn't mean it applies and will hold up any argument copyright owners want to make.

Contrary to popular belief, they would not waste their time trying to prosecute people who legitimately copy their legal games for their own purposes to their HDD. They want to keep those people off of Live and the such as a type of incentive not to do such things. It's the people copying their code, selling/distributing a product using their copyrighted code, or making a profit selling pirated games they're interested in.
