OK, I finally found someone to start studding up my basement while I am away and figured I better start finalizing a few things. Here are a couple of rough design pics for what I want to do for my HT and some general info on the numbers I am coming up with.
Please pick it apart and tell me what I am doing wrong so I can make changes now.

I will be powering my AV closet via a Belkin PureAV PF60. I will also have FO stars in the top ceiling area, rope lighting around the soffit edge, can lights in the soffit and controlled by a Graphik Eye. My AV closet will be controlled by a touchpad a friend is setting up using RF or wireless on a linux system. I will also have a 12TB RAID in the closet for the movies that are not being played off the PS3.
I know the screen is too big for some people but the way I see it, I can mask it down if it is too big for me. I would rather it be too big then not big enough.
Thanks for your pre-help.

Everything seems so beyond awesome. Does the entrance door really have to be up front like that?

Looking really good Chad, this is the theater room type I would have liked for my basement! BTW, I got the RS2 (HD100) projector, I will be picking it up this week from Ultimate Electronics, I was able to have them drop the price down to $6300, which is not bad considering they are an authorized JVC dealer. I will be starting my own thread soon here too. I almost done framing. Good luck with your project, looks very good so far.

Unfortunately yes. I have not decided what type of door to put there yet as I want to make sure I get something that will acoustically seal as best as possible without going in the poor house.
Since I am over seas, my wife will be taking pics as the guys frame everything up. It will be a slow build as I will not move forward between major phases until I come home to inspect every 6 months. I was fortunate that a friend of a friend has a construction/remodel buisiness and will do it as a side job for me since I have a weird timeframe.
Here is a projected timeline:
PHASE I - between now and Xmas
Frame, plumb and wire entire basement. What is shown is just the HT and a play room for the kids, there is an additional game room, 2 bedrooms, full bath, storage and utility room as well.
PHASE II - while I am home at Xmas
Wire HT
Show crew how I want the drywall in HT done. 5/8 GG 5/8 on walls and 5/8 GG 5/8 GG 5/8 on ceiling with sound isolation tape on studs instead of RISC clips and 8" Cotton in ceiling between floor joices and 3 1/2" cotton in SS walls.
PHASE III - between Xmas and June 09
Drywall and finish everything except false wall, IB wall, stage, riser and soffit work.
PHASE IV - June 09 trip home
Build IB wall, stage, soffit, and riser.
PHASE V - when I finally come home sometime late 09 or early 10
Complete HT

Looks like you've made good use of the space. It should be a fantastic theater. Eight 15" drivers? I take it you like your bass in large quantities! I guess that explains the need to triple-drywall-and-GG the ceiling!
A couple of questions: (1) Will you have access to the back of the rack? (2) How much space will you have behind the rear seats? (3) Are the surround speakers going inside the inverted-pyramid things on the side and back walls? Do the pyramids need to be that deep to accomodate the speakers?

I love bass and only want to do it once. I always dreamed of a HT that when the puddle in Jurassic Park rippled, my drink would as well.

I am going to put a rack in the AV closet that swivels out so I will have access to the back.
When the seats recline I am projecting they will be about 6" space behind the rear seats.
I know my columns look odd, I think my initial thought of them are a little large as well. I will not have a chance to prototype them until at least Xmas when I come home. The 3.1's will go inside them and I do think I will be able to both slim them down as well as reduce their intrusion into the room. As drawn they intrude 2' into the room at the top and will accomodate an 18" wide speaker inside the wooden pieces, so yes, they will end up smaller. I think the final design may be 4" narrower and only come into the room about 18" at the top.
I want to keep a little size to them as I want them to slightly resemble a horror film coffin. I am going to do the decor in a goth like dungeon with the columns resembling columns and have a skeleton in each of the back corners hanging in cages and other oddities in the room.
I dream of producing that puddle's ripple in the neighbour's pool :D

OK, I have redone the images with the revised columns and it does look much better.

The above pic is with a rounded stage and below is one with a octagon style to match the soffit.

Which do you think goes better together.

Everything else is angles .... I'd stick with the angles of the "octagon" style...
