aomiles 07-02-08, 11:09 PM They are having a donation drive over at cheapassgamer to send everyone's old games out to the troops in Iraq. Please check out the info here:

My friend just got back from over there and told me that video games really help to pass the time so any you could send would be appreciated.
formulanerd 07-07-08, 11:32 AM i miss the huge halo2 lan games we had in iraq :)
Degenerazn 07-07-08, 12:22 PM Great idea. I'm going to ship a few games that's been sitting in my Goozex account for months.
RAVEN56706 07-07-08, 01:14 PM can someone please verify this?
i would like to donate but unfortunately there are alot of deceiving organizations out there trying to milk the whole war thing...
waterboy419 07-07-08, 01:20 PM cheapassgamer.com is a legit site. i've been going there for years. they did this last year too. it was set up by people from that site who were in iraq. so the games are going to the soldiers, not to someones personal collection/ebay.
jremy510 07-07-08, 01:22 PM Looks like a contractor who is collecting and distrubuting games on his own. It seems legit, but it's also not run by any organization so there's not really any way to be 100% sure about it. I only donate to established charities (don't even give money to the sad kids with coffee cans outside the supermarket) but that's just me.
FIVE ONE SIX 07-08-08, 12:05 AM i think it's pretty sick that someone donated Rock Band, i can just imagine how much fun they're having with that...

aomiles 07-08-08, 01:42 AM For every game donated they post a picture of your game and the soldier that received it.
Thats really the best verification that a program setup like this can do. But when I sent some in I wasn't too worried about it - It was an old game that I only would have got like 5 bucks for trade in anyways.
beach scrub 07-08-08, 10:42 AM I heard about similar programs before. I'm in for sure. I might even pick up a few used games to send over too.
RAVEN56706 07-08-08, 12:19 PM can anyone put the info on here so i can pick up a couple of games for these guys...
Should the troops really be playing games? Seems like they might have some more important business to take care of
Sgt: Boys, you've been inside all day in front of that TV. Why don't you go outside and get some air
PFC: Aww but sarge, it's hot out there!
I'm just playing devil's advocate here...
With some exceptions, all my games get sold back so I can get a discount on new releases. Although, I'd love to play some Battlefield Bad Co. with some armed forces dudes
beach scrub 07-08-08, 05:27 PM Where's boojigga when you need him?
How else should the troops relax while away from family and friends in some god forsaken desert surrounded by insurgents and IEDs?
cesslinger 07-08-08, 06:14 PM Id rather donate a blunt. I know that is one of the first things that my buddies asked for when they got shipped back home.

I take you have never been in the military.
If your not on mission/patrol or cleaning your gear, there is always downtime. Anything to take your mind off of being away from home, family, or the stress of dealing with life in the sandbox is a good thing.

system link is the only thing that kept me alive for the two years i was in iraq, well that and oblivion, and bootleg satellite porn.

I cannot begin to tell you the good that has come from the work of this thread. The young men and women over here need to find a release from the stresses of life in a combat zone and you guys have helped them tremendously. By donating games to occupy their time you may have kept them from drinking or other stupid mistakes that could cost them their career or life.
I am not a soldier, sailor, Marine or Airman; I am a civilian contractor who has been here for close to 3 years. I am not asking you to donate games for us but would like to continue the work that Shane Neuhaus has started and be a relay point for your contributions. I will provide you with pictures and a short detail of who got the games and what they plan to do with them.
If there are any questions about the legitimacy of my intentions you are more than welcome to e-mail me or call me at 713-422-9521 and I will be glad to speak with you.
My mailing address is listed below and I hope to hear from you guys soon.

aomiles 07-08-08, 10:39 PM FYI - when shipping your games out to Iraq its actually really cheap. When using that APO address above you only have to pay to ship it to Frisco and the US will cover the tab from there.
aomiles 07-08-08, 10:40 PM Flikr website if you want to see the troops with the games they have received already:

i was over there during launch, and still managed to get one... there were plenty of them there after 6-8 months, and i cant even imagine how many people have them there now.

Yeah, I've never been in the armed services. I almost joined the coast gard a few years ago but another maritime opportunity came up
I think the program is great, I was just playing devils advocate. By all accounts it's months of boredom followed by moments of terror, so having a good time killer / distraction is a must have, I'm sure.
keep up the great work
