I was wondering what the best way to tackle this problem is i was originally going to drywall my ceiling first and then build a soffitt around this ductwork but now i am thinking i should do a soffitt first i have attached some pics what do you guys think is the best way to approach this.

I want to use some treatments for the room should i be using anything inside this soffit here insulation or anything?

Tear some R13 thin. It peels apart so you can use 1" or 2". Lay some of that between the soffit and the duct. DON'T PACK TIGHT.

Make sure the cavity above the duct has some fiberglass also.
