I am trying to get an Intel based mac mini to display on Sharp Aquos LC-45GX6U TV. I am using a dvi-to-dvi cable.

When initially connected, it worked fine, outputting at 1280x768 at 60Herz. It is not the native resolution for that TV, but close enough to display OK. I tried to play around with resolutions and as soon as I switched to another res, the TV showed a black screen with a message "signal is not compatible with this input". The funny thing is that when restarting the mac, it shows the boot screen fine with 1280x768 at 60hz shown in the right top corner of the TV. However, as soon as it boots, it goes back to the black screen with the dreaded message.

I have tried connecting other monitor(s) and TVs (all of which work fine) and then changing the resolution back to 1280x768, then reconnecting to Sharp Aquos. It doesn't work.

I have tried clearing PRAM and NVRAM - it doesn't work. Still gives the same message.

I tried deleting plist files on the mac (which supposedly save monitor settings) - it doesn't work.

I tried booting it in safe mode and it worked worked, if you reboot in normal mode, it goes back to the dreaded messaged. I then tried going back to safe mode and playing with resolution there. Once I did this, it showed the black screen with the message in safe mode and now the safe mode does not work either.

Please help!

Ooo. That doesn't sound like fun. If you have another Mac and both are running Leopard, have you tried screen sharing? Maybe then you could change the screen resolution.

Three weeks ago the exact same thing happened to me and seaching the internet today I found one more post of the same thing happened to them on a sharp 32".

My mini has displayed for 4 years no problem then three weeks ago while changing display choices, poof, no display will work after it boots up though it will display fine while loading the operating system.

With all three of us it happened like in the same week. I could find no reports of this any other time despite the mini and the sharp have been around for years and years.

Could this relate to an apple upgrade? Perhaps we downloaded a recent upgrade incompatible now with our tvs?

RNKC123 did you get any answers to the problem as I just now have time to start to fix mine. (one guy used a DVI to HDMI cable adapter and used that input but, I have my DVD using that....) Help?

Here's what worked for me. After some tinkering, I went to the back of my Sharp TV and found the reset buttons in the lower left-hand corner (when looking at the back of the TV). The one on top is "reset" the one below it is "system reset." Take a paper clip and hit the "system reset" button. The screen will go blank for a few seconds, then the PC screen will appear again. :)

BTW, I wanted to help out, but the registration to join this site so I could post my response was entirely too time consuming for a forum like this. It's just a free consumer forum, not registering for online banking. :)
