Hi all. I have been reading posts here for a while and have been constructing my theater room with much of the knowledge I have gained here for the past three months. My room is 16 X 25. I have raised platform seating for 8. Electric curtain. Did a coffered ceiling with fiber optic stars, lutron graphic controller and picked up a Denon 3808 today along with monster 3400 power surge protector. Thinking of Benq w5000 and 110 inch screen, going to use an MX3000 remote to control it all. Got 2 Infinity subs 650watts each forgot the mod number. DId the dynamic platform. My question/problem is I dont want to make my room all black. Ive researched forum and I have seen some use white paint. Can I use a flat white on my coffers and columns or is that REALLY that bad of an idea?? Why ??. Any ideas of color schemes instead of white? My carpet is probably going to be black with burg in it. Walls will be burgandy. Here are some picts of my progress Still need to do some crown amoulding and speaker column wrap in moulding. http://members.aol.com:/kmr111/th/1http://members.aol.com/kmr111:/th/2 http://members.aol.com:/kmr111/th/3 http://members.aol.com:/kmr111/th/4 http://members.aol.com:/kmr111/th/5http://members.aol.com:/kmr111/th/6

It's too bad you've already primed the coffers. You had some beautiful wood work. I would avoid white. With the burgundy and black, you could have stained the wood work either a dark cherry or mahagony.

Actually the ceiling was made with all primed woods. Wouldn't stained be bad because of the sheen? Or are gloss finishes okay?

I would do a faux finish dark cherry/coffee stain. Don't ask me how but I know it can be DIY.

I can't tell from your pictures. Could you please make them bigger? :D

I'd avoid white.

Not only does it have a tendency to wash out the picture, but it's too stark. It draws too much attention to itself. If you look around you'll see theaters that are dark, but they still have the baseboards and some of the trim white. It's not enough white to do anything to the picture, but it just draws too much attention to the baseboards and trim. It's the first thing that's noticed.

Now, obviously, you'd like people to notice your columns and coffers, but you want them to blend in with the rest of the room too, not stick out.

I'd consider the columns in black (against the burgundy walls) and the coffers in burgundy (against the black ceiling).
