So I made the switch from DirecTV to FIOS last week and for the most part it's alot better.

But I have been noticing on HD channels on the that their is a slight shimmer to the picture. Almost like a faint pulsating light. Not sure how to describe.

It really shows up when the background is a gray or light blue, but it's pretty distracting.

I'm using an HDMI to DVI chord for my 36 inch Sony CRT (HD)

I looked for a topic similiar to this but could not find one. Anyone have this issue?

Can you CRT actually scan at 1080i or does it always scan at 480i?
What resolution are you outputting ti it from the FIOS box and what resolution where you ouitputting to it from the DirecTV box?

In general CRTs do better with a component hookup - that's certainly the case for my Sony HD CRT. See if the same things happens via component.

Yeah, I think I'll try a component cable and see if I get the same result. My HD CRT is outputted to 1080i and that is what the FIOS box and the Direct TV box are/were set to.

What model Sony 36" CRT TV do you have?
Is ther a setting on your TV to switch its scan rate between 480i and 1080i?
Does it make a difference it the HD program is being broadcast at 720p (ABC,FOX, ESPNHD) or at 1080i (CBS, NBC and the rest except for some PBS channels)?
