I am building a dedicated theatre in a new house and I am looking to do a front stage area. I am going to set my towers and sub on the platform and need to know if I have to put sand inside the stage area. My builder has done multiple theatre rooms in million dollar plus houses and had always just nailed the staging area to the floor really good. Should this be enough to work.

Thanks,

You builder has built a lot of crappy theaters in Million dollar homes.

Sand Sand Sand, unless you aren't building on a concrete base.

I was on a retirement relocation contemplation home tour a couple of years back and the builders showcase home ($1.6 Mil) had a theater that was the sensation of the area Realtors. I walked in and had to be very polite but there were so many mistakes that the only solution I saw was to rip it down to the studs and start over.

You really want a solid stage. You can't blame the builder. This is what he was told at some point and no one has complained. I see this almost daily. A builder, architect or drywaller has done it a certain way for a long time and naturally feels that's the way to go.

They're typically resistant to change that method.
