I am surprised this thread hasn't been started yet. So I took the initiative!

(Hopefully this game will bridge the gap till Gears 2)

Let's have a list of players fella's

I'll be picking this up this afternoon along with my first 360 faceplate.

I want to pick it up based on my experience with UT2k4, but from what I understand, there's no leveling system (lame) and it seems the consumer reviews on Metacritic are less than enthusiastic.

Not sure if I'm willing to spend $60 now. :-\

85% on IGN and Gamerankings.com is not bad. If Soul Calibur IV wasn't coming out later this month, I'd probably pick this up.

Yeah, Metacritic has 85%/8.5 too. But the average USER review (which I trust more than critics) is only 7.0 and that's up from like 6.8 yesterday.

Been playing this on ps3 for a while now, its really a great game. I may trade my ps3 copy in for the 360 version so I can play with all my friends, bummer the 360 version doesnt have mods though.

I think the biggest issue with UT3 is that people are expecting something else. UT3 is old school, twitch FPS. Nothing more, nothing less. Good graphics and repetitive and sometimes rediculously frustrating gameplay. I played the original in 99 along with Quake 3 and have fond memories. :)

Long live die, rinse, repeat!

So you're basing your opinion off user reviews that were posted before the game was ever even available?

Yeah, because, as we all know, it hasn't been out for the PC or PS3 for almost a year now...

Lord knows that a different control scheme = vastly different game and that, in fact, UT3 on PC isn't at all the same as it is on the PS3 which is also nothing like how it is on 360.

Three completely unique and different games, all incomparable to each other.

with no mods the game is still good but not a buy for me. PS3 copy's are now around the $25 used price mark.

would love to get it for xbox but i am not going to get 2 copys of the game.

have fun yall.

Except for the fact that you were referencing the Xbox 360 specific user reviews. The PS3 user reviews are holding steady at 8.5. Epic fail, sir. Epic fail.

And the PC reviews are holding steady at 7.4. Your point? Would you like a side of french ail with your fail burger?

Referring back to my blatantly sarcastic post: it's the same ****ing game. And lots of places sell games early. I have no doubt in my mind people already have UT3 for 360 and have for days. I got Half-Life 2: CE for PC over a week before it came out because Best Buy put it on shelves early. Of course, that was locked in Steam, but that's not the point. Games get sold early.

But hey, it's not like Gamespot or IGN have ever been called out for rating a game super-high because they got paid to do it. You're right. I never should've questioned the integrity of journalists. Especially those who review games for internet sites.

Let me get my sheep suit back from the dry cleaners, completely ignore any review that scores the game less than 85% and go spend $60 on something that can barely stay above a 7.0.

Also: check out Shadowrun sometime. The critics reviews were brutal and scathing, yet it's one of the best multiplayer games ever released and has a huge cult following.

Yup. Those reviewers are ALWAYS right.

No one said the reviews are right. You continue to contradict yourself. You were the one that was giving weight to the user reviews that were posted before the game was released. You then used the other platforms that game is available on as an example as to why those reviews could be accurate, but the other platforms have their own user reviews that are much higher. Your circular logic continues to fail. Perhaps we should wait a week for the user reviews to average out with people who actually own the game before we start referencing them. The game might well be a 3.0.

Considering it was sold out at bestbuy/Gamestop and EB here I would say its doing pretty well. Then I get home empty handed to find my clan ALL playing it. 13 guys on in total. We havent had that many on at once since CoD4 came out.

Depressed....depressed... so I tried to finish Bioshock.... and couldnt due to lightning :(

Wow. That girl on the internet that says Resident Evil 5 is racist is an idiot, but it will hit the fan if she gets her hands on this game. You can make an excuse for Cole Train in Gears of War because he's an ex-football (or the Cera equivalent of football) player being voiced by an actual ex-football player. But within the first three cutscenes, you're introduced to two black characters that talk more "urban" than Cole. It's nice that Epic thinks that 1,000 years in the future all black people are from South Central LA.

I'm not bothered personally by it, but I think it's funny. The third word out of Malcolm's mouth is something about his crib. The other characters starts out levels by saying "I buy my threads there" and "We about to do a driveby." And the best line so far: "I been through some of the wackest battle conditions you ever seen."

The game is classic UT so far. Loving it.

Yeah I only have 1 guy I play with on ps3 and about 10 or so on x box,,so I guess I'm gonna trade in the ps3 copy for the 360 version, playing with friends is where its at....I dont really use alot of the mods anyway...Its a really great game if you like old school UT

If you have experience with UT2k4, why would you have thought there would be a leveling system in UT3?

Wow...dude, really, how ****ing hard is it to understand this? Apart from the PS3 version (which, at the time, pretty much had no other games, let alone shooters for the platform), the user reviews are lower than the critic reviews. It doesn't matter what the actual user score is, just that it's lower than the critics' score.

Do you understand now?

I don't count the PS3 because I'd expect any games to get mostly great reviews since there was nothing else to play.

So...for PC and 360, the users say it's worse than critics say.

Man, all this simple logic is making my brain hurt!

Anyone know if there's a demo coming out for this?

Tempted to pick this up but just want to "make sure" that it plays as well as some of the other upper tier FPS games.

There's a PC demo.

But I don't think you will see an XBox demo.

Are there alot of people online? I already have the Ps3 version and like it but the community is incredibly small. If the xbox version is more popular, I wouldn't mind buying it.

The game is just out, so it'll take some time to get the community going, but it should be bigger then the PC and PS3 version combined since they both flopped. Atleast until Gears 2 comes out, but thats 4 months away

You expect UT3 to sell many copies with so many people playing COD4, BF:BC and Halo 3?

UT3 sold a million WW combined for PS3 and PC, the players just moved on rather quickly to other games.

well I kept my ps3 version and picked up the 360 version, they are pretty much identical in graphics and gameplay. It seems this game has brought alot of ole school DC peeps out of the woodwork and alot of them remembered me and some of my friends from the DC days.

It is a really fun game and does bring back some of those fond memories from the DC days, if your on the fence I'd take a chance and pick it up. I have only played in friend created rooms so I'm not real sure how big the community is but the room is always full and when someone leaves the spot fills again quickly.

I played most of the weekend and am having a heck of an awesome time. It also seems that most of the players online are a little older, as I haven't been berated by squeeky voices yet. There are a couple of issues that might matter to some of you.

1. There is no easy way to do multiplayer with your friends. There is no lobby system. You can invite friends into the campaign or custom rooms.

2. There is no option for auto-talk. It is push to talk. The quick fix here is to press and hold your push to talk button (default right dpad), unplug your mic, release the push to talk button, and plug your mic back in. This works, but your mic is always on.

Hopefully these two things will be fixed in a patch (prolly not, with GoW2 soon), as I cannot see how they were not implemented after releasing it for the PS3 that way. Im guessing they just wanted to make some quick cash on this one.

yeah the chat glitch works perfectly, I also noticed no little brats online...we did have a younger guy that talked nonstop...I finally told him we didnt mind his talking but he needed to slow it down and not so much, surprisingly he was kool with it and everything was A OK...having a great time with this game.

Anyone AVS peeps that have it and wanna play send me a F/R

I am torn about this game. I have the PC version, and I hardly play it. The graphics are way better for me on PC too, but I can see myself playing it more on 360. It feels really weird playing Unreal with a controller though.

This game rocks. Having lots of fun with it.

On the DVD game case is says "Optimized for HDD"
Does that mean it's ready for the fall update when we can store games on the hard drive or are they referring to the high-def display?

Todd Good catch, maybe so.

On a side note, I have noticed that lag has been getting progressively worse. I wonder if it is due to all the open mics?

I hope they update the multiplayer interface it's not very useful as it is.

It means if you have a hard drive present, it uses the cache section for smoother gameplay. Kind of like how Grid only allows replays with the hard drive.

I was hoping that wouldn't be true, but I am having a hard time finding enough people to fill out ranked games. I did, however, find lots of people playing the campaign on live.

I'm doing a single player campaign first to get familiar with the maps and weapons. I played a few times online and generally had a good experience and I too get the feeling UT3 isn't that popular. Maybe everyone is waiting for Gears 2.

Hello

I've been away for a long time on these forums and just saw the "gaming" section and found this thread. I just finished the single player mode and only played a few rounds of MP. Some of us did try the "Warfare" which I thought was cool but some didn't care for it and haven't played it coop again. We went with Godlike Bots and they were tough at first. So if some want to give coop a shot let me know. I'm central time (Tennessee).

So far it has been very good. I have noticed lag in only 1 game. There are tons of multiplayer games, and thus gaming has been spread out. Ranked games have been OK, but I have only played a few. I think many including myself are trying to get acclamated to the maps and gameplay thus many campaign games still. I suspect that after attrition, there will be a solid core of enthusists that will continue to play.

I just got this game off Goozex. Is anyone still playing this game? Is it worth it playing through the campaign? It seems pretty pointless, just MP matches with bots with a semi story.

I am playing on and off. The campaign is good to get used to the controls and the different game types. The 'campaign is also fun because you can do 4 player co-op which makes it much more fun. That being said, if you do not care for any of the campaign achievements, and you are familiar with the gameplay, just jump straight into multiplayer. With the different mutators, the game is really fun. The problem is that because you can have bots, there are many on-line rooms, but none of them get filled, but once you find a full room, the rest of the night is fun.

Im in the middle of migrating all my multiplayer games over to PS3 so I dont have to pay for live again. I havethis on PS3 and absolutely love the KB/M support. Its something microsoft really needs to embrace. If 360 had KB/M support I'd probably pay for live again and play COD4, UT3 and H3 a lot more. For now I'll have to hope sony makes PSN easier to use than it currently is.

Don't you think by using the KB/M, you have a slight advantage over those using a controller? I hope MS keeps KB/M off its games, reason why there's the PC version.

Hosts can pick KB/M+Controller or Controller only as an option for games on PS3.

It seems silly to me to ask for less input options. Why would I want to play on PC when I can play on a console much easier, with a more immersive experience for less overall investment?
