I have just purchased a 46" LCD that is too wide for the built in cavity in my wall. I knew this going in and have been considering mounting issues. I do not want to to wall mount for various reasons.
The cavity includes a shlef that comes out about four inches. This leaves about 3 inches of my base, and none of the screen, hanging off the front end of the shelf. To secure the TV, my thought was to drill holes in the base and shelf and run bolts through them and secure the bolts with nuts on the bottom of the shelf (which would be hidden from view by the decorative molding along and around the shelf). I have also considered running a metal plate along the bottom of the shelf to add further stability. Does this sound crazy to anyone?
Thanks for the input.
