Can anyone comment on what the general price curve these days is on Plasmas? I see on Nextag you can view the historical price curve on products. As expected, as something is initially available, the price is the highest as dealers cash in on impatient buyers with deep pockets that have been waiting for the latest greatest model to be available.

I was looking at the 58" Samsung 650 series Plasma and boy did the price fall in the first 3 months. But I would expect this is typical.

It appears some manufacturers release products in the Spring and other in the Fall. I specifically interested in the Samsung 58" 650 series which is around $2800 right now.

I believe Panasonic and Pioneer (Samsung's main competitors) have highly anticipated models coming out at the end of the summer, early fall? Do the models released in Spring typically take a dip in price when the fall models come out?

Then of course we have the economic climate. I'm in no hurry. I'd like to get that 650 Samsung sometime in the next 4 months. I suppose in any case the longer you can wait the better. But if I'm ready to buy now, is there that much of a chance there will be a price dip in the next 3-4 months?

November is your target for the best prices...specifically the few days before, during and just after the infamous "black friday" Thanksgiving sales. Many retailers that are close to being in the red really are trying to end up the year in the black....and those that aren't don't want to lose sales to their competitors and reduce prices accordingly.;)

Another good time is too look at the end of the summer/early fall, when some companies will bring out some newer models just in time for the Holiday season, so you can find some good prices breaks on either last years models or the spring models.

The two best times to purchase is the week leading to black friday and the weeks after all the way until christmas. After that there is a little break where the prices go back up and then when the NFL Playoffs begin that is usually the second bet time to buy, especially if you are looking for the great financing.

Well then, looks like I'll hold off until November. Thanks!
