I'll ask for forgiveness in advance if this comes off as a little basic to some
I just got the Canon HF100
also acquired Roxio Toast 9 Titanium
I mainly got Toast because I've read where it plays back .mts/.m2ts files which have been a problem for me and my Mac in the past
playing around with it a bit though I noticed that you could convert files
first, I try an .mts file from Canon ... no problem
next, an .m2ts created by a Panasonic .... good deal
I want to convert these files so they will play natively in QuickTime and the Finder Preview pane
I converted to both .mp4 and .mov and both worked fined
the .mov files were as much as 5x larger than the original
conversion options are
HDV (720p or 1080i)
h.264 player (up to 1920x1080 up to 60fps)
MPEG-4 player (mp4 improved up to 1920x1080/30fps)
QuickTime Movie (.mov) with options to de-interlace
as well as a few others options for portables / internet streaming
I'm wondering what is the best conversion to use, in order to retain the quality of the HF100's video, but making the files more OSX friendly ( without ballooning the files size to 10x the original)
Thanks
