The urge to retire the Sanyo PL70 is getting stronger. Money is burning a hole in my pocket.
All I need is 1080P at 2,000+ lumens at less than the price of a small car.
Surely there must be a suitable projector on the horizion soon.
Anyone aware of any rumours of suitable projectors to be launched at Septembers CEDIA?

Not likely. Remember the PLV70 was a presentation cross over...basically they made super high light output in a 16:9 native projector...based on a presentation. Anyways, most manufacturers have gone away from that in favor of better performance, higher contrast, etc... Of course Cedia is around the corner so if anything does come out, that will be the time.
God, I hope your wrong Jason.
I have a 1.7m by 4m 2.35 .9 gain audio screen and have even been considering giving that away and moving to a hi gain configeration because of the lack of upgrade options. But I'm very reluctant.
May be the only option though!
Your comments on the PLV-70 are interesting. It was the enthusiasm that I saw on this site that eventually drove me to purchase. At the time it seems to me that there were a significant number of users out there.
The machine has been great. It never fails to amuse me watching the reaction of visitors walking into the HT and sighting a high light/ large screen combo for the first time!
I would have thought that the high lumen section would be a good market niche for one of the manufacturers to own.

Yes Jason that's true but it still throws a hypnotically attractive picture given its lousy specs. That's why it's so hard for us diehards to let go of the old dinosaurs. I still have my PLV-70.
OK, I confess that wouldn't be the case if it would just die or burn out a bulb or something. I find it hard to discard a perfectly well operating machine.
