I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this yet. I'm really blown away by the quality of this XNA game in XBox Live Arcade.
So far, I've only tried the demo, but I'm really considering buying the game.
The basic premise of Schizoid is that the game is meant to be played co-op. One person controls a red ship. One a blue ship. Blue ships run into blue creatures to kill them. Red runs into red. Blue creatures kill the red ship. Red creatures kill the blue ship. And you share the "lives" you have remaining. That's it.
But what gets interesting are the creatures you are trying to destroy. They aren't mindless. Blue ones will run away from the blue ship. So you sometimes have to lure the blue creatures over to the blue ship with the red ship. Some are slower than you. Some are the exact same speed, making catching them a nightmare without a lure. Some red guys shoot blue guys out of themselves, radially, which means that the blue ship has to go in first to clear a path for the red.
In later levels, there are power ups like a wire that connects the two ships to cut the enemies.
The demo gives you an awesome sampling of the levels you find in the first game. It warps you around from level to level, skipping 10 or more at a time to give you a taste of what's in store.
Some of the levels rotate just ever so slightly as you play the game, which somehow adds quite a bit to the experience.
The game's menus are gorgeous. It urges you to try co-op. I have not yet. I used the computer controlled red ship, which is actually quite smart.
I'm glad to see that such high quality games can be made in XNA Studio. I'm very impressed! I can't wait for more!
