Hi, I have just started playing GTA4 and have run into this problem where when the game loads stuff, it sometimes just locks up on the black screen where the bottom right displays the mission title or “Loading” text (about 1 in 5 times). I can press the xbox button to go back to the dashboard, so the system doesn’t lock up: just the game. I deleted the save games and game data on my system and it still happened. I exchanged the game and it happened once more (I didn’t play it for very long though). Tonight after work I'll exchange it for a third copy. Is there any other data I should try deleting?
I don't get this problem with any other XBOX 360 games I own.
I have heard that certain stores get "bad batches" of games, could this be one of those situations? Or, is my relatively new XBOX 360 Elite doomed? I don’t know the build date of my system since I’m at work now and can’t check but I made sure when I got it that it had the new Falcon technology.
Thanks!
Don't know if this helps but I've noticed sometime when I'm streaming music to my elite from my laptop that between songs it freezes.

I would say its possible but very unlikely its the game. You'd be much better off trying the game on a different system if you can.

i had a friend having the same problem. it had to do with rock band peripherals being plugged in at the same time

It's the game. A lot of people had the frozen loading screen including me. A patch was supposed to fix it though I haven't played since the patch because I beat the game before it came out.

Mine used to freeze up on GTAIV all trhe time, then the RROD came for me and now it works just fine. I would say its the RROD but that could just be my experience. I got my box back in two weeks though so that isnt to bad.

Its likely the game. As previously said its locking up on others, and the patch didn't help for me (locked up last night). Supposedly (I don't know the technical details) GTA4 is really pushing the 360 to the limit. Hope its just the game and not your box!

Thanks for the info. I don't have any peripherals plugged in or stream music to my xbox over a network. It sounds like the game just needs another patch. I won't exchange the game tonight for a third copy.

i've been having the same issues. if i leave the system alone for a few days then try playing then it usually works, but at some point it locks up again usually right after loading a game. suboptimal, let me know if you figure out how to fix; i've tried cache clearing, etc. but no dice.
