I know the A-tv will ouptut hdmi and optical simultaneously (as I currently utilize the option) my question is: does it output analog as well (simultaneously)
I have an onkyo 805 and it will only accept an analog souce for its "zone 2" mode (archaic, I know). So essentiall,y if I want a-tv on the patio AND in the living room it needs to output BOTH at the same time.
I got everything set-up y-day, but I didn't have a lot of time to mess around with the a-tv after the speakers were run, new analogs plugged in, etc.
Right off the bat, I'm not getting anything in "zone 2" with the analogs while the hdmi is ouputting fine in "zone 1".
please tell me it doesn't have to be either or (digital or analog).
thanks,
James

ok I'll answer my own question: The apple tv outputs all THREE simultaneously. HDMI OPTICAL AND ANALOG.

James - same 805 receiver here, and I can't get audio out of Zone 2 from my AppleTV??? I've tried everything (I think)...I've got analog audio out coming going into Aux input (because I think I'm out of optical inputs - need to recheck, but scary back there). Anythoughts?

check your mappings in the 805. I dont beleive you can use toslink on zone 2 but the analog should work fine if the apple TV does output all simultaneously...

Gary-
You're good with the analog...now just be sure to go into the receiver MENU area, select HARDWARE and switch the ZONE 2 to ACTIVE. It's pretty straight-forward but easily overlooked...you should be good to go from there.
BTW, let me know if you get slight "popping in your rear surrounds when you turn on ZONE 2 while "ZONE 1" is in a surround mode...obviously you'll have to have a 7.1 srt-up for this.
Iget this annoying little pop in some surround modes when the onkyo has to shut down the back surrounds to fire up zone 2.
good luck.

correct. zone 2 MUST be an analog input (god that pisses me off!) and the appletv DOES output all three (hdmi, optical, and composite) simultaneously.
The new problem is that there is a audible delay between the analog and hdmi output, so if I want to be running both (Zone 1 and Zone 2) at the same time I get this "reverb" going on. I guess I can just select the same analog input for both area's but then I lose the tv video. I suppose I can plug the analogs into an "audio only input" and over-ride the hdmi audio that way. I guess the aforementioned is the on-line equivalent of talking to oneself!
this onkyo really handles the business (besides that analog bs anyway) :p.
